Anyone afraid of mold in a finished basement?
We had Alure give us an estimate for the Owens-Corning Basement system awhile back. It was INSANE... $47,000.00. Needless to say, we are not doing that. But, they guy scared us to death about putting sheetrock in a basement. He actually said if we had kids playing in a sheetrocked basement, hew would call CPS on us!!! The project is on hold for now, but I am nervous about sheetrock down there. Anyone feeling the same way? Anyone have any major mold issues? Anyone think he was a fear-mongerer who wanted us to shell out the money?
Thanks!

sounds ridiculous to me about sheetrock in the basement. everyone has it!!! Sounds like he was just scaring you into buying the product!

I think that is rediculous. A lot of people have sheetrock in their basement. I would get another quote from another company.

This guy is absurd. Before Owens-Corning invented this system, what did everyone use to finish their basement? Sheetrock. Definitely using scare tactics to get you to buy his system. If it was me, I would contact his boss and let him/her know what is going on.

ITA.
Any company that has to result in scare tactics to sell their products is completely unethical.
Maybe he should look at his product and its price. If it was truly quality for a good price it would sell itself.

We have mold in the basement of the house we are buying and basically have to redo it asap. Our inspector told us that there's a new sheetrock that's slightly more than regular sheetrock, that's waterproof so we are planning on using that (he told DH $1 more per sheet).

We used that sheetrock in our split level basement and it a green/blue color it is the same stuff you use in the bathroom.

Re: Anyone afraid of mold in a finished basement?
We just had our bathrooms done and I was thinking about that sheetrock for the basement. Thanks for the reminder. I guess the consensus is: that guy was a fear mongerer!

Re: Anyone afraid of mold in a finished basement?
there is another sheetrock that is "better" than the green kind now, its specially designed to resist mold because its not made of paper & its got a higher fire rating. Lowes has it for $14 a board. ETA to the guy from alure probably rents a basement apartment somewhere & doesn't even own a home....what a dirtbag to say what he said. I would have kicked his azz out.
