Re: anyone afraid they will suffer from post partum depression
I've thought about it. Especially since my Mom went through it after having my brother. I really try to push that concern to the back of my mind though because I really believe in the power of positive thinking. But you never know, and it is a scary thought. Try not to think about it too much. I'm sure you'll be so excited when baby arrives that even the thought of being depressed will make you giggle.

Yes, because I had it with the first and it was no fun at all. They say it is rare with a second child but I am still a bit scared.

Re: anyone afraid they will suffer from post partum depression
I'm a bit nervous.....my mom went through it.
Also, the first 9 weeks of my pregnancy with all the hormone surges I was very depressed. I am worried that the drastic drop in hormones after delivery might do it as well.
I am trying not to think or focus on it. I have a lot of support if I need it........
I just hope I am ok

Re: anyone afraid they will suffer from post partum depression
I'm a little concerned - I'm not the warm and fuzzy type to begin with and I am anxious about the whole 'giving up my freedom' thing .......
Whatever, it is what it is. - I have no problem popping a pill or seeing a therapist if need be - I'm not proud !! I need to be able to take care of my family -

I have thought about it but I know to head immediately to therapy and take medication if it happens.

Re: anyone afraid they will suffer from post partum depression
i wouldn't be surprised. i have a history of depression and anxiety problems, so i'm more prone to it. and apparently my mom had it if that means anything. i don't think about it though - it's nothing i can't handle, i''m sure of it.

Re: anyone afraid they will suffer from post partum depression
i do wonder about it, i tend to react to hormone fluctuations, very emotionally, even when I would get AF I would be emotionally up or down dramatically, and with this PG I've been that way as well, so I can't help but think that the hormones after the birth may affect, I'm praying I'll be OK!!!

Re: anyone afraid they will suffer from post partum depression
I am nervous too b/c I have crazy hormonal fluctuations, and I am suffer from anxiety to an extent. I think I will be okay, though, so long as nothing apart from the baby stresses me out-- family problems, and the like. Also, that DH doesn't annoy me or make any out of town relatives come stay with us!

Re: anyone afraid they will suffer from post partum depression
Yes!!! I had depression when DD was born. I needed some meds to help me a little. I plan on going back on the meds after this one is born. I also have a bit of anxiety.
I never ever want to feel that way again. It was horrible to feel that way. I look back and cant believe that I avoided my DD as much as i did. Now, I cant imagine my life without her.

Re: anyone afraid they will suffer from post partum depression
Yes i am very scared about this. I have a history of depression so im sure it wont be hard for it to creep up again. Im just gonna stay positive and home that this overcomes everything else. when the time comes to go back to work might make things a little harder.

Re: anyone afraid they will suffer from post partum depression
I worked in a psychiatric unit and something even scarier than postpartum depression is postpartum psychosis. Its more rare than the postpartum depression and usually you are more at risk with a history of psychosis, bipolar disorder or schizophrenia with you or a relative but I saw one case where there was no known history and it came as a total shock to the family. It is just awful. The good news is with mental illness is that there is treatment so just make sure our loved ones are aware of these risks after birth so they can lead us in the right direction.

I am. I had it with my first. It wasn't severe, but it was still not a good experience at all.
