Anyone apply for a passport in person?
I work right next door to a Passport agency-- it seems silly to mail something in-- but I feel like the facility may be for special circumstances.
If I apply in person- is it expedited?
Anyone have experience with this?

i applied in person at a post office that also issues passports
it's not automatically expedited unless you pay extra. i had my photo taken there as well, and they charged me for that

Re: Anyone apply for a passport in person?
you need to have airline tickets dated within 2 weeks to go in person. They won't let you up to the floor without the tickets/itinerary. We had to run to the Delta offices in midtown to get this to be let in.
I've had to do it for myself and with DH. Both times you go very early and stand on line and then go back at the end of the day - it is possible you may have to come back the next day.

That explains the lines out the door!

Re: Anyone apply for a passport in person?
We did this about 1 week ago. You have to call to make an appointment first and then you have to stand around and wait. If you want to get your passport immediately, you have to prove you are flying within 2 weeks. You have to show your electronic itinerary or actual ticket. We printed out the itinerary from AA.com and that was sufficient.
If you don't need it NOW, I would recommend that you go the post office and wait the normal 4 - 6 weeks to receive your passport.

yeah-- I was just thinking since it is right here-- if even I dropped it off, it would save the two days...
I am traveling May 17th.

same here only i took my photo at cvs-- someone told me it was cheaper and that it takes a much nicer picture and since i had to go to cvs anyway at the time- i went there. i don't think the price difference is much but i don't know for sure what it is.
they don't expedite it for you if you go in person- i just went b/c i had NO CLUE what i was doing lol.

I tried to change my passport at the post office in person and they said they only take NEW applications & I had to mail it in for a name change request.

Mine expires in May and I need to change my name-- so it's two-fold as to why I need a new one.
I'll just mail it in-- seems to be the best way to do it.
