Re: anyone bought a home from owner?
We bought our condo FSBO off craigslist.
What we did was speak to the owner and verbally agreed on a price. Then we called a lawyer and had a purchase offer written up. When signed, this became the contract.
We then had an inspection and renegotiated the price directly with the owner, called the lawyer who wrote a contract addendum which we all signed.
Honestly, it was very easy. It was nice dealing directly with the owner, and everything went smoothly for us.

Re: anyone bought a home from owner?
Well, we had gotten preapproved for a mortgage as I was also looking at places with an agent.
Once we had the signed contract, I just faxed it over to the mortgage company and that began that whole process.
With FSBO, I had to do a lot more of the leg work myself, but considering our place was 40k less than what others in the building sold for, it was worth it. I spent a lot of time on the phone over the past few months.
