Anyone deliver a big baby vag?
I was convinced that I wouldn't be able to deliver my baby vaginally. I go to the doctor today for my 39 week appointment and I'm hoping he sends me to the hospital or something, so I'm sitting here thinking about whether or not I'll be able to deliver the baby vag or if I'll need a c-section.
Last measurements on Thursday were 9lbs 12 oz. She said she was "skimping" on the measurements and that it was getting hard to be accurate beacuse the baby is so big. To give you a background, the measurements have been the following each week:
9 lbs 2 oz 8 lbs 8 oz 7 lbs 9 oz 6 lbs 11 oz
So I'm wondering if any of you delivered "big" babies vag and what your experiences were like?

Re: Anyone deliver a big baby vag?
My son was delivered vag and was 9 pounds 10 ounces. It wasn't easy... I pushed for 4 1/2 hours, and at the time I wished I had gone for the c/s BUT now, I am glad it happened that way and wouldn't have done anything differently. If and when we have another child, I would do it the same way, even if the next child was just as big or bigger. It's a tough decision to make, but I'm sure you'll make the right one for you.

Re: Anyone deliver a big baby vag?
I am not sure if my baby is considered "big" but they told me she would be about 7 lbs and she was 8 lbs 4oz (and I am a pretty petite girl!) I pushed for about 45 minutes...and yes, I can't lie - it hurt - I was uncomfy (I have nothing to compare it to though since she is my first) - but it wasn't TERRIBLE.
I had an episiotomy - I was so worried about that but the truth is - it's not so bad. This wednesday will be three weeks and I am feeling pretty good - just a little sore...but things like going to the bathroom (sorry for the tmi) or sitting weren't bad at all after the first day or two.
The worst part of it for me was that I hurt my back pushing - it hurt way more than my stitches - but even that only lasted a day or so.

Re: Anyone deliver a big baby vag?
I keep telling my husband that if the baby indeed does end up being a 10 pounder like we're expecting, and I deliver vag, that I'll feel like a champion afterwards!!

Re: Anyone deliver a big baby vag?
My son was 10lbs 3oz and I delivered vaginally. We didn't expect for him to be that big. When it came down to the pushing his head was a doosy but his shoulders got stuck so I had to have an episiotomy. My dr. cut half way through the perinenum (sp??).
ETA: I pushed for almost 2 hours. After delivery, it took a good 3 weeks til I felt OK down there. I had to sit on a donut when sitting too long or on hard surfaces.
It can be done!

You are a champ no matter how big or small the baby is - it's tough work - but soooo worth it!!!!!

Re: Anyone deliver a big baby vag?
My SIL gave birth vaginally to my 10 lb 4 oz niece. She was stationed in Germany, and said it was a small hospital. No one ever mentioned c-section to her.

You will be amazed by what your body is capable of!!
My baby (born vaginally, vacuum assisted) was over 9 pounds, and I'm 5'2.
Recovery from a c-section is far worse than delivering a big baby.

Re: Anyone deliver a big baby vag?
my baby was 9lbs 10 oz delivered vaginally- I have to say that compared to some of the other stories my labor was pretty easy- i pushed for under an hour and only had a tiny tear requiring one stich. My dr's thought that the baby was about 8 lbs ( I hadnt had a sono in a while) they were def. wrong but Im glad that they didnt know that he was soooo big because they may have pushed for c section which I didnt want at all. But before going for the suggestion I would have to say is to trust your body- women are capable of birthing very large babies. Btw, Im 5.6" but Im only a tiny 115 pre pregnancy ( of course I gained about 50 during pregnancy) and I have a very small frame- people are still amazed that know me when I tell them how big my baby was.

Re: Anyone deliver a big baby vag?
I had a 9lb. 3 oz. baby....we knew he measured big, just not how big, and I only pushed for 25 minutes (as a first time mom too, dilated 2cm-10cm and ready to push in 1.5 hours....no epidural either!)

Re: Anyone deliver a big baby vag?
Jordan was 9lbs 5oz and Mallory was 8lbs 10oz..... and the Dr. said they were probably over 10lbs - they overexaggerate half the time so I wouldn't worry too much. You can do it

Re: Anyone deliver a big baby vag?
Logan was measured at 8 lbs 10 oz in the drs office and delivered at 9 lbs 2 oz.... vag delivery. It wasnt that bad, but I did have to have an episiotmy (Sp?) which was the worst part of the whole process.

Re: Anyone deliver a big baby vag?
I started out with an 8lb 10oz. the next one was 9lbs. 5oz, the third was 9lbs. 8oz. and the forth thank god was 2wks early and weighed in at 8lbs. 13oz. If he was born on time the doctor said he would've been just about 10lbs. I couldnt really tell you if there were any bad experiences because all my labors were pretty fast. 1 1/2 hours to 4 hours. Epidural is a marvelous thing

Re: Anyone deliver a big baby vag?
Looks like I had the porker of the group!!!
My son was 10lbs 5 oz., 23inches long.. Delivered vaginally, had an episiotomy, and they had to use a vacuum... My lil turkey weighed an ounce MORE than our Thanksgiving turkey that year!!! It is possible.. just watch for back pain.. and if you feel at all uncomfy during L&D don't be afraid to ask for a C-- My son is 2 and a half now.. and still the 98th percentile... oh... BTW they told me my son would not be more than 8 lbs and they could "guarentee" me that he was gonna be 7 and change!!
Good Luck!!!!!!

Re: Anyone deliver a big baby vag?
A few days before I delivered my baby my doctor told me that he was concern that I hadn't gain enough weight. I wasn't that big and I only gain 25lbs. So I was nervous after that comment that I was going to have a underweight or a small baby. I ended up being in labor for19 hours and pushing for almost an hour. She came out at 8lbs 14oz,21 inches, and so beautiful.A surprise to all of us especially my doctor at her size.I couldn't walk for two days and after the two days I struggle to walk but got around.

I know.
I mean I KNOW I live under a rock these days but I don't think I would have missed it for 39 weeks
