anyone deliver with an OB from suffolk OBGYN?
I just had my "confirmation" appt. last night..."congrats, it's positive" (duh) blah blah blah....
in my little goody bag they gave me, there were a bunch of papers and one of them listed their charges for delivery...$6K for vaginal, $7 for c-section....
i was planning to ask this at my first real appt. on the 26th, but thought i would ask here in the meantime....does anyone know if that is above and beyond what insurance should cover? like, after all is said and done, will we get a random bill for 6 grand??
i know all insurance is different (i have cigna) but when i saw that, i kind of freaked out. our insurance is good and covers a lot, but i was just curious as to what your experiences had been....
i guess i should call cigna, huh?

Re: anyone deliver with an OB from suffolk OBGYN?
While all insurance plans are different...in general if they are participating providers of Cigna they have to accept what Cigna covers. (assuming that they are in Network)...there may be additional charges for certain uncovered items.
For example...while my OB visits were covered without a copay, if the office drew blood or did a sonogram I owed a copay for that...I had some additional charges in which I owed a coinsurance for some lab work too..but these were all minimal charges though.
All in all pretty much everything was covered....

Thats what the bill will be and then the insurance will pay what they pay off of it.You will be responsible for whatever is left.. Dont forget though you will also be paying for anethesia too thats not included. If I were you Id call your insurance and ask exactly how much they cover..

Re: anyone deliver with an OB from suffolk OBGYN?
I have my first appt with them at 10 weeks May 7th...i have been through the ringer with managed care for all kinds of stuff and here is how it works. Basically if they accept your insurance your insurance will pay say whatever is the going contracted rate. So, say you have a vaginal delivery and the insurance pays 4500, you will be responsible for the difference. That is the doctors fee for delivery and they always collect 100% in my experience. Now, the hospital fee is different. If they are a participating hospital(most are) then usually there is a hospital deductable or copay and then the rest is covered. Hospitals write off the difference so in other words, if your stay cost 10k(in addition to the doc fee) and the insurance paid 5500 you would not owe the difference. Usually a copay or fee. Very interesting how they gave you a price package etc! That gives me a heads up!!

I delivered my first through them and felt the same way when I saw the "fee"...I had Empire BCBS then, but did not pay anything for the labor/delivery portion...By the way, I had Dr. Petraco deliver my daughter and he was wonderful! I am secretly hoping for him again this time!

My best friend LOVED Dr. Petraco as well. I've seen him once so far and I really like him a lot too. He's sooooooooo nice. In terms of insurance and all that I far as I know my friend didn't owe anything after the delivery of her daughter and she was in the hospital 2 days prior with preeclampsia, had a C-section, and was in the hospital for another 4-5 days after that. I have Oxford Freedom and I am 99.99999% positive that EVERYTHING is covered, no out-of-pocket expenses related to the pregnancy or delivery. I paid a co-pay on my first visit after the RE released me back to Suffolk OB/GYN and I haven't had a co-pay since. I think my insurance coverage is pretty good. Let's hope so.
