anyone do a natural IUI cycle?
DH is very concerned about me taking the fertility drugs.
I asked my nurse about doing a natural cycle of IUI w/out clomid. She said that if we do that, she recommends still doing the ovidrel shot. DH and i need to decide if we want to try this route b4 my nurse asks my dr if it is a viable thing to try.
Has anyone had success w/ a natural iui cycle?
we have been trying for over a year and i have 1 blocked tube and a LEEP procedure i had in my early 20's has major f'd up my cervix... and DH has MF issues.
TIA

No experience with that, all 4 of mine were medicated. Just wanted to wish you lots of luck. I was a little scared to take the leap into taking meds too.

I did 5 natural cycles and they were all BFN i did 2 medicated ones too and they were a bust too. The meds werent SOOO bad but i wasnt happy taking them at all. I was always tired and always bloated and i gained like 7 lbs in no time.

Re: anyone do a natural IUI cycle?
When i started taking Clomid, they started me on 50 mg to see how i responded to it. Trust me, the dr doesn't want to create multiples either so whenever they put you on a fertility drug, they will be monitoring your egg production and growth throughout the cycle (with sono's).
If you're concerned about the drugs - talk to your dr about it. They might be able to suggest an alternative.
The Clomid stimulates more egg production - some of those eggs don't mature, some do. So, they will be constantly monitoring you during your cycle, and they'll know exactly what size the eggs are and can determine when is the best time to do an IUI. The way i look at it is.. they're increasing the chances of you getting pregnant by having more eggs - yes, there is a chance that more than one could fertilize.. but for me, i can't even get one to fertlize so i'm not really worried about two!
I don't get any symptoms from the Clomid, but i know some people do.
good luck!

Re: anyone do a natural IUI cycle?
thanks for your replies.
DH is making me nuts about the correlation between breast and ovarian cancer and fertility drugs. i asked my nurse about that and she said that the concern really comes in for women that are on injectibles for a long term.
DH said the final decision rests w/ me b/c it's my body.

I've never heard of any studies linking fertility drugs to cancer... but not ever getting pregnant does......Here's an interesting article for your information http://infertility.about.com/od/infertilitytreatments/i/drugrisk_cancer.htm

The way I see it is, there's a risk to everything... even if you look on the little leaflet that comes with birth control pills it will tell you about the increased risk of breast cancer and blood clots!
I used injectable meds for 3 cycles and fortunately that 3rd cycle DID get me pregnant! I knew about increased risks of various things but I tried not to dwell on it.. I know the risk of getting cancer from those drugs is relatively small ... and the chance for me having a baby without those drugs is basically nonexistent. So, I just took my chances!

Re: anyone do a natural IUI cycle?
Like you and others I wasn't thrilled with taking meds at first. I did a natural IUI first but with no luck we moved to clomid I was successful on that round but then had a mc. Needless to say I am now on injectibles and will do IVF next if needed. The more I learned about my cycle, my body and the process I became more OK with the meds. I can't lie they are not always fun but I need them!

Re: anyone do a natural IUI cycle?
I did a few unmedicated IUIs in the beginning and like you, i was very nervous to take that leap into fertility meds. But they were all BFN so I finally decided to try the clomid.
Ultimately it is your decision but I can tell you that it's not as bad as you think it might be. They start you out on the lowest dose. Clomid is a pill you take for 5 days, super easy. I do have some mild side effects on it but not everyone does. I was nervous about the ovidrel shot because i didn't understand why i needed it when i ovulated on my own. But the dr explained to me that it helps to time the IUI (SUPER important) and it makes sure you release all mature eggs.
I only have 1 tube so for me it's important to ovulate on both sides every month. The clomid will do that for you.
good luck with your decision!

thank you all so much for sharing your experiences.
that is great to know about the clomid since i also only have 1 clear tube.
DH and I have decided to go ahead w/ the medicated cycles b/c of my tube issue.
