Anyone do vacations without the kids?
I feel like we are the only ones who go away without our kids.
Granted, we are not going to Disney or any family places when we go away.. we have gone to Europe a few times (we run school trips with students so taking the kids is a no-no), and Montauk once. We don't plan any trips for them because I feel like it would be so stressful with the two of them and we are waiting until they are older to go to Hershey, Sesame Place, and Disney so they can ride the rides and be more independent (you know, potty trained, etc). Plus they just wouldn't (or at least DD) get it now, and they are just as happy as playing in the back yard.. so why spend all the money?  Also, it is REALLY nice to just have alone time with DH.
Anyone else?
DH hears it from some people at work that they would never go away without their kids, and he was like "are we bad parents because we go away without them?"

I do...and don't feel guilty one bit! I miss my DD like craaazy when we go - but I need to recharge. It makes me a better mom to have down time.

You're not bad parents because you go away without your kids. I remember my parents going on 2 vacations without us, but there were more smaller vacations that they brought us with them.
A balance between the two is just fine.

We went away on a cruise with friends when Jared was 1 year old. Now we're planning another vacation for Jan 2010 without the kids again.
I don't think there is anything wrong with that.

We went YEARS without going away on vacation by ourselves. YEARS. We would go out for the night or even 2 nights, but never anything extended.
Last year we went on 2 back-to-back trips by ourselves. I can't even tell you how absolutely terrific it was to be away & strongly recommend it for parents.
I truly believe the best gift you can give your kids is a strong relationship between the parents.

So far we have only done 1-2 nights on our own. I would like to do a longer trip with DH, but noone seems to want DS for that long.  But we also do a family trip atleast once a year. DH and I also take atleast one trip a year just with our friends. I will be going to Williamsburg next month with DS, my sister and my niece and DG will stay home alone. In May I will be going to Jamaica with my friends for the weekend for my BFF's wedding. And I'm sure I will do a few nights over the summer with my other girlfriends- we do it every year. DH and I are really hoping to do a Friday-Monday trip for our 5 year anniversary in October.

Well I have heard some amazing reviews on the Wizard of Oz museum... we might just make a trip out there to see it... oh and if we have time, swing by your place....

My friend goes away for 7 days and she leaves 4 soon to be 5 kids at home with the 2 grandmom's. It's great for their marriage!!!! They try to do it once a year but it doesn't always work out that way.
If we had the means and good babysitters who could handle it ( we have neither of the 2) then I'd go away for 3 nights tops. I couldn't do anything longer w/o the kids. Besides missing them, it's just too much for me to come home to.

We have gone away 2 times since having our DD. Both vacations were places that we did not feel comfortable bringing her. We missed her but she had plenty of fun times with her grandparents so she was just as happy.

My husband would be so happy if I was able to go away without dd. I just cannot even imagine more then one night without her.
