It's always been my issue. I don't know how to be casual....seriously. I have a hard time finding something to wear to say, a BBQ where I know everyone is going to be really dressed down. My Mom is the same way, so I'm sure I get it from her. When I go shopping I am always attracted to dressier outfits and consequently I have never had "basics" like t-shirts or tank tops. I am making a valiant effort to get more casual clothes, but it's so not me. I know I am in the minority...it's just not fun for me to be casual, but I do think it gives an impression I am trying too hard or am stuck-up when I go to casual events and I am more dressed up than everyone else. On the other hand, I would rather be overdressed than under dressed....I guess I'm just venting because I don't know a lot of other girls that feel the same as me. Anyone? Chat Icon

This is totally me. T-shirts and tank tops are workout wear, or pajamas, or maybe for doing chores around the house -- not for going out, no matter how casual the occasion.

In college I wore t-shirts and jeans almost exclusively. I guess I just feel like I'm not in college any more, so why should I dress the same as when I was?

There's definitely a happy medium, though. I have plenty of casual, comfortable outfits that don't include tees or tanks, so I don't think I stick out TOO much -- at least, not in a bad or stuck-up way.

I'm the same way. I just don't look good in jeans, or shorts and I will never own a pair of khakis. And being 5 feet tall, I look 12 years old when I'm not wearing heels. It's not to be obnoxious. I would love to look cute in a pair of jeans, a tank top and sandals. It's just not a flattering look for me.

I look at it like you can always take something like a tank and jeans and dress it up with shoes and accessories, makeup and hair.

I say, go to the gap, get a some jeans, tee shirts, tanks, khakis and then go to the loft or ny&co or macys and get some accessories.

I find myself like this in the summer - I have SO many summer dresses that I love but, when it comes to every day I find myself wearing the same jeans/tshirt look every day.

sort of. My issue is that I have a lot of casual clothes but I always end up wearing the same few things because I feel like they all look TOO casual. I love being comfortable and love the idea of jeans and a tee shirt and flip flops, but when I'm about and about, I feel like I look frumpy or like a teenager. My challenge is finding stuff that is casual but still "nice" and my style. The stuff I see that is on the nicer side makes usually me feel like I look really generic and it's never my style - I like classic looks with an edge to them...I find this easier to pull off with work clothes and dressy stuff b/c there is more room to play with things like shoes, heel height, etc.
