Anyone else not into reading lots of pregnancy books?

I am the type of person who usually likes to pour over information. Keep spreadsheets and charts, etc. I am anal.

But for some reason-- I am just not into doing my normal thing for pregnancy. I am happy enough with reading weekly baby center emails, and looking up the one or two things I am looking for info on.

I feel like if I got too "into it", I would probably stress myself out... so, I am being completely laid back. SO not like me!

Am I the only one?

I'm not into reading books either. I feel between family, friends & LIF, I'm getting more info than I would in books anyway.

My DH on the other hand LOVES reading pregnancy books & magazines.

Re: Anyone else not into reading lots of pregnancy books?

I started then I stopped. I saw that there was conflicting information from book to book and felt they did nothing but scare and aggravate me. Personally, I feel I would rather take pregnancy advice from women who have been through it (pregnancy) or the medical professionals who know ME and my own medical history best. Some people may disagree and put less credence in what their physicians say, but frankly, until I have an MD or a DO after my name, I prefer not to diagnose myself. I tried that once, had a meltdown and I am perfectly fine.

Re: Anyone else not into reading lots of pregnancy books?

I am the same way. I only have one book and I only open it when I want to know something specific. Otherwise, I feel I get enough info on here to satisfy me. Also, as you said, the last thing I want to do is read about something that is already on my mind too much.

Re: Anyone else not into reading lots of pregnancy books?

I haven't been reading anything, which is not like me at all.
I buy fit pregnancy, I like the articles, but no informational books. My mom bought be a book about multiples which I started looking at and is interesting.
I will drive myself crazy with too much information. I feel like I already know too much, in the beginning I was constantly worrying about everything. I have been so much calmer now that I stop overanalyzing and looking up every little thing.

Nope, I have a bunch of them sitting here and collecting dust. If I am really bored I will thumb through the one that has some cute info, but doesn't serve to freak you out. This is not like me at all as I usually am an information junkie. But between here and my friends, I have more then enough infoChat Icon

At the beginning I was very into it, but now at 21 weeks my books just sit there in a pile. I check them weekly or every other week now...

I am just like you! I need all of the information that I can about most subjects. I even bought several baby books but have not opened them except for one. And even that book I don't read that much! Totally normal!! Chat Icon

Re: Anyone else not into reading lots of pregnancy books?

i'm over it. the information is repetitive and it's nothing that you can't find online anyway.

nothing really applies to me since i didn't have any of the symptoms in the 1st trimester so i stopped reading/buying books.

Re: Anyone else not into reading lots of pregnancy books?

I'm 33weeks and as of today I have read the following books on pregnancy...................

BIG FAT ZERO

*shrug*

I love to read and I like to know stuff ahead of time, but with this, I'd rather learn as I go (ask here or ask the doctor). I think too much information can be a bad thing too.

Same here, I'm not into reading pregancy books filled with facts either.
It's like reading a textbook!

However, I do enjoy reading the funny books like Jenny McCarthy's Belly Laughs or Girlfriend's Guide to Pregnancy.

I think that between this board and the wealth of pregnancy sites out there, we get info as it is!

Much more so than our own mothers ever did!

I haven't read one book and that is so not like me -- I figure I get everything I need from LIF, my OB and my weekly babycenter.com emails Chat Icon

Re: Anyone else not into reading lots of pregnancy books?

The BEST advice I ever got when PG with my son John was DONT READ!!! As soon as I got my BFP I went out and got "What to expect" "the girlriends guide to pregnancy" and 2 others. Every book had conflicting info. I literally broke into tears because I would stress over the info. Finally a friend told me, throw them away, ask her or any one else who had a baby and if really concernced call my Dr.

From that point on all I would read was weekly updates on babys developement.
