Anyone Else Pregnant and House Hunting??

We just started to look around now. Nothing to serious but just wondering if you are in a rush before the baby comes to find a home or stay where you are for now and if the right home comes along then jump.

Just wondering if I am the only one. I'm fine were we are but if a house comes along we love I want it. But I'm due in June and not sure if I can handle all the pressure.

Re: Anyone Else Pregnant and House Hunting??

Yup. We just put our house on the market - if we get a good offer, we are looking at a few, nice fixer-uppers that we'll do the work on ourselves.

It's overwhelming, but we've done it before so I know we can handle it.

Re: Anyone Else Pregnant and House Hunting??

D, you know this, but we're in exactly the same boat. We've actually been looking on and off for a year, but we've narrowed it down to 1 school district, and we are working with an agent to see every new listing. I'd love to be in a new house before my due date in June, but if it doesn't happen, we are fine where we are for a while. I won't jump on something I don't love just to have a house before the baby arrives.

I'd just love to set up a nursery for Chat Icon in our new home, and have more room to store the baby stuff that we are already accumulating!

My parents moved when I was 6 months old and my brother was 3 years old...From what she said, it sounds much easier to do while PG than when you already have a little one!

Re: Anyone Else Pregnant and House Hunting??

We found out I was preggo with DS in August 2006 and started house hunting

We moved into our apt in March 2007--I was due May 1, 2007

It was beyond hectic...but had to be done

Re: Anyone Else Pregnant and House Hunting??

we're always looking but now that I'm due in Jan I know it's not going to happen before my little one gets here.

Because I know we'll have a house one day I ordered the basics for nursery furniture - crib & dresser

Once settled in a house I would do a furniture set

good luck to all of you house hunting!

Yes, we were in 2005 when I was pregnant the first time. We had started casually looking before I got pregnant, but got serious throughout the pregnancy.

I didn't find it stressful until the end, when we found our house and it looked like the deal was about to fall apart. I was driving home on Throgs Neck Bridge and talking to DH on the phone HYSTERICALLY crying! Not a good deal for a pregnant woman!

Then, we got the house and even though we were to have closed earlier, one thing led to another and we coudn't close until DD was 12 days old...Chat Icon Chat Icon After that, I was quite depressed for a variety of reasons, but one that added to it was that DH was at the house painting etc. after work almost every day for the month until we moved. And I was stuck home with an extrememly high-maintenence newborn. Not good times! Chat Icon

My advice? Move in before you have the baby!

Re: Anyone Else Pregnant and House Hunting??

We did it. Our 1st house deal fell through and started looking again after the baby came and moved when he was 8 months old.

If at all possible, move before the baby comes. I was tired when I was pregnant, but it was really difficult packing and moving with a baby.

Re: Anyone Else Pregnant and House Hunting??

We just took our house off the market. We decided to expand instead. The neighborhood we are in is a desirable one, and although I'd prefer to live elsewhere, it is a good place to live. We had too many 1st time homeowners come in interested, make an offer, and then get bitten in the arse by the alleged pre-approved mortgages and had the deals fall through.

I have to say I am a little relieved that I will not have to move with a newborn AND a toddler, but I would have done it if that is how the timing worked.

Re: Anyone Else Pregnant and House Hunting??

The day I found out I was pregnant we were actually going to put an offer on a house. That house fell through but we found a different one a couple of months later. We wound up moving when I was about 26w. As hard as it was to do all the house stuff/close/pack/unpack, etc....now that my little one is here I cannot even imagine doing it with a newborn or infant!

Re: Anyone Else Pregnant and House Hunting??

we are actually thinking of moving out of state a few months after the twins are born. We just moved into our townhouse and LOVE it...its in a gated community...has amazing grounds ...4 pools..etc....but the room the babies will have isn't as big as it will need to be as they grow s once the lease is up we are jetting. Thinking Florida ASAP because my parents just bought a house down there and we would be able to buy a house for $85-$125K (our sq.ft range). Its exciting to me because I can't wait to set up their REAL nursery. Doing it really nice here but we know we wont be staying so doing it more temporary so they have a nice room to com ehome too LOL....

Well, we're not house hunting, we're apartment hunting (renting at the moment). We live in a 1 br at the moment and definitely need a 2 br. I found somewhere I love, so send good thoughts my way that we are able to get it!

Good luck to all you house hunters!!! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

We bought a house when I was 4 months pregnant. Moving is a lot easier pregnant than with a baby or toddler!

Re: Anyone Else Pregnant and House Hunting??

we spent a couple of years looking, hoping to have the house before the kid. needless to say we finally found the house when i was 5 months pregnant. scheduled to close in january, baby due in february. and had them the other way around, closed in february, and the baby was born in january. worked out ok though, we kept our apartment for an extra 2 months and had all the work done to the house before we moved in. if i had the chance to do it over though, i would have had the house before we had the baby. (trying to pack and move was not easy)

We decided to wait until after the baby was born, so we just decided to rent a house instead. But everyone is scaring me, saying it is easier to move when pregnant than when you have the baby!

I agree... Plus being pg gets you out of the manual labor that comes with moving. It was great, i would put a few things in a box and call DH when i wanted the box moved. When the movers came, I just pointed to where I wanted things to go.

Re: Anyone Else Pregnant and House Hunting??

Not this time around, but I was 9 months prego when we started looking b/c we were in an apt in a private house & there were issues of foreclosure w/ our landlord & a bad divorce & other issues that we no longer wanted to have to deal with. We started looking and found the home we're in 3 days b4 the baby was born.

We ended up closing when the baby was 2 months old & then moved in & DH was fixing it up.

It was stressful, but doable & we're so much happier in our own house now.

Yes! We are going to start in January when I will be about 12 weeks. I am hoping against hope that we sell our co-op and find a house we like. We have already settled on one school district though, so we've narrowed the field down quite a bit. As a lot of ladies have already said, I think it is easier to move while PG than with a newborn. It won't be easy, but I guess easier.

Good luck! There is a nice house... in great shape but needs some cosmetic updating. I know we're in the same area so let me know if you are interested and I will send you the link.

we're doing the same thing - casually looking and will jump if something stands out to us.
