Anyone else so petrified that...
Is anyone else so petrified about giving birth and the whole labor process that they are not enjoying their pregnancy?
I am 9 weeks and I am embarrassed to say that I am so scared of the whole process that I am not appreciating being pregnant at all. I feel so guilty which makes it worse. But I am awful with pain, NEEDLES, hospitals, etc....that I cant focus on the wonderful thing that is happening right now. I dont know what to do anymore. I know everyone is scared but its overtaking my life.
Any advice??

When I was pregnant with my son I never once thought about it untill I was doing it. Now that I have done it once I am sooooo scared to do it again. I remember saying to my husband "I will never do this agian" and even though I don't really remember the pain I have bad dreams about it.

I'm a little nervous but it's nothing new - I'm not the first to go through this and I won't be the last. It's been happening for hundreds of years...I just think of it that way. Plus I guess I've wanted a baby for so long that I dont care so much about what labor will be like, I just want to have my little girl.

I am having a scheduled c-section in 2 weeks and I am so scared of the spinal. I know I had one with my son but I was on Stadol so nothing phased me then. This time I will be awake and alert and the thought of a needle in my back is very scarey

Re: Anyone else so petrified that...
I was very scared of the pain of labor and of the epidural. But let me just say the epidural was the best thing that was ever invented and I wouldnt have cared if they gave me the needle in my eyeball, it was so welcomed after feeling what contractions are like!! And yes although i had a BAD labor experience and it was painful at times, and i said I would never do it again, truth is it has been 1 month and the memory of the pain is so far gone. When you look at your beautiful baby everyday, and what a miracle he/she is, you will forget. And I would do it again. In a NY minute!!! Hang in there, you will be fine. You'll see....

I agree 100%. The epidural was my best friend. 10 months later, I am ready to do it again, I think

Re: Anyone else so petrified that...
I was, especially in the beginning, but as the months passed I felt much better, I couldn't even take a class because I was on bedrest, then the 7th and 8th month came and I was ready, when my water broke I was taking my sweet time because I was nervous again, but as soon as the contractions hit a little harder all I could think about was getting her out and there was no fear.. Good Luck!
Edited to say I agree with Chee-Chee I had her 8 days ago and I forgot how the pain felt!!

Re: Anyone else so petrified that...
I was..until I started to read about Hypnobirthing and started to become truly amazed at what my body is capable of...a women's body is an amazing thing. I started to actually feel confident and wanted to feel everything that came with birth. You should do some reading about calm methods of birthing a child and also tell yourself everyday that your body was made to do this and therefore it can Also while some people LOVE epidurals some people just don't think they are very good for labor progress so you should do reading on the subject and be open to many different types of pain management that are available for you.

Re: Anyone else so petrified that...
I cried all the time while was pregnant because I was afraid of the unknown....and what the pain would be like. I have to be honest..those contractions hurt like a b!tch, but I'm a big wimp when it comes to pain. However, you're drugged up so you feel very comfy most of the time. Just remember, the pain is only temporary!

Re: Anyone else so petrified that...
You should talk to your doctor about your fears. They might be able to help calm them a bit. I agree with reading about the hypnobirthing, and also, look into the Bradley Method for delivery. It is a 12 week course that gets you ready for the delivery -- including exercises to make it easier and a bunch of other stuff I don't remember (since I only has 12 weeks to go when I looked into it, it was too late for me). Since you are still early, you have time. Just google "Bradley Method" and sites will come up. That might help you.
