Anyone else's DC weigh this little at 9 months?
DC had his 9 month checkup today and he only weighs 17lbs 10 oz and was only in the 10th percentile. and he was 27 1/4 inches long and in the 25th percentile. I thought both were very low. The ped said anything under the 5th percentile for weight is underweight.

Re: Anyone else's DC weigh this little at 9 months?
At Kaitee's 9 month appointment (10 day shy of 10 months) she weighed 20 lbs 3 ozs and was 27 1/2 inches. I would guess that Kaitee weighed around 18-19lbs at 9 months so you DS doen't seem that much smaller than she was!

Christopher was 19 pounds t 9 months, but 28 inches. He went from the 10th percentile to the 50th. If the PED was not concerned then I think he will be fine.

Re: Anyone else's DC weigh this little at 9 months?
DD was small and still is. I don't think she was even that weight at 9 months. She's always been in the 2nd or 3rd percentile for weight and so far at almost 2 years old still is. I'll be surprised if she's more than 23 pounds at 2 years old in Sept.

Re: Anyone else's DC weigh this little at 9 months?
Jacob is and always was thin also. He is 18 1/2 months old and weighs 21lbs. He gained one pound in 3 months, but the ped says "he's gaining" so they dont worry...but according to my DH"s baby book, Jacob is the same weight and height that DH was at his age and DH is tall 6'2"... so I am just attributing it to being like his daddy.. Hopefully not in EVERY WAY!!!..
I'm sure your baby is fine..

Re: Anyone else's DC weigh this little at 9 months?
thats how much hannah weighs now and she is 13 months! as long as your dc is gaining, i think its okay. is dc a big eater? very active? my ped told us not to worry that she is under the 5th percentile for weight and height as long as she gains and grows.

Re: Anyone else's DC weigh this little at 9 months?
Those percentiles are fine. Both numbers are close, and as long as they stay close to their own curve, everything is OK. It's only when they go from 90% to 10% to 70% to 5% that things are bad.
Both DC were on the small side. DS is 4 now, and doing just fine. Some kids don't grow until a little later.
Also, I think it's a good thing that both DC are less than the "average" weight in America, and as far as the "height", those measurements are never accurate. The baby is wiggling, the pen is at an angle. They are probably an inch or more off each time they measure.

Re: Anyone else's DC weigh this little at 9 months?
If it makes your feel better Jack fell off of the weight charts at about 18 months since he is such a skinny-minny. But we are not concerned since he keeps growing and is developing fine and eats enough during the day.

Don't make yourself crazy with the #s and %s. My son was the same as yours (smaller actually) and you should see him now. he's 2.5 yrs old, weighs 33 pounds and is 38 inches tall.

When DS went for his 9 month checkup (which was a few months ago) he weighed almost 18 lbs and was over 30 inches long.

Re: Anyone else's DC weigh this little at 9 months?
None of my kids were much more than that at that age...I know that the twins were 28 inches at a year and that my eldest daughter was 30 inches at a year. My eldest daughter only weighed 20lbs at a year and the twins were definitely under that...
At 8 years old the twins are just shy of 48 inches and weigh 42lbs...as long as growth is steady there is really no reason to worry!

Re: Anyone else's DC weigh this little at 9 months?
At 9 months DS was about 16lbs and change. By 10 months he was 17lbs 14 oz then he got a stomach virus and lost half a pound, maybe more. At his 1 year checkup he was 18 lbs 14 oz and 30 inches. As long as they are gaining something and are healthy they it's fine...

Re: Anyone else's DC weigh this little at 9 months?
My DS has always been between 10-20 percentile for height and weight...
And like others have said- if he is gaining (even if its just an oz) and developing then there is no cause for concern

My ds is 6 months old and 12.5 pounds...he is making his own curve as the peds say! AS long as they keep gaining it is fine. He has gained 10 pounds in 6 months!!
