Anyone ever break an addicition to chapstick/lip balm?

I am TOTALLY addicted to lip balm. I apply it like every 15 minutes and pretty much go into a panic attack when I realize that I dont have a tube around. It's been like this for about 6 years.

I know that this is something I have probably done to myself. Chat Icon Im assuming Ive detroyed my lip's ability to moisten themselves?

Is there a way to break this addiction? I cant IMAGINE the thought of going "cold turkey" and suffering with dry lips for awhile.

I used to be just like you - major addiction! I think it can have a negative effect on the amount of moisture your lips produce naturally.

I've been able to wean myself down but not go cold turkey. Now, I apply in the morning, after each meal and before I go to bed.

If I forget to take a tube with me, I freak out and usually either buy a new one or go home with chapped lips. I feel your pain!

I am a total chapstick addict too and happy to hear that I am not alone. I keep chapsticks everywhere because I will also have a panic attack if I don't have one.

I have been trying to break my addiction by drinking a lot of water - I figure if it keeps me hydrated, it should keep my lips hydrated too! I have been trying to minimize how much I apply it during the day, e.g. I put it on at set times during the day. I also find that when I am busy, I apply it a lot less.

I don't think I can ever go cold turkey because I have naturally dry skin so I think my lips are probably naturally dry too (without my excessive chapstick use!)

Ahhh you girls have made me feel a little less psychotic!!

I think Im going to always have one available (to avoid panic attacks) but try to hold off before i reapply it... only reapplying when absolutely necessary.

No idea if this will work!

There is supposedly a chemical in chapstick that is addicting. Vaseline brand of products are not supposed to have the chemical, maybe you can wean yourself off the chapstick with the Vaseline stuff?

And doesn't someone on here work in fomulating beauty products, maybe she can confirm if it truely is addicting.
