Re: Anyone ever buy a house "AS IS"?
Yes.. and IMO we got a great deal We basically gutted the entire house, but since we did most of the work ourselves we got a better deal than we would have buying a more expensive house with no work needed (which doesn't exist LOL)and we got to do everything the way we wanted it!

thats what we did and yes it was a lot of work and even doing the work yourself you do have to put money into it but its so worth it. because its done your way

I did but not in the sense that it had to be gutted. It was a private sale and the seller would not be responsible for costs and fixing things that came up in the inspection.
Everything went great!

I did and completely re-did everything slowly so we could afford to go for quality. Great decision we made!
PS - my house was a foreclosure (if that makes a difference).

Re: Anyone ever buy a house "AS IS"?
We did...but I think there are different levels of "as is"
I would not want that had structural, foundation, sewage, etc problems...that can be more of a headache than its worth...unless the price is REALLY right...
we pretty much gutted our place and it was fun to learn and put it back together...but when you take on a lot...its easy to burn out...and there were a lot of little things that we left and left...which took such a little amount of time int he ned to fix them (like putting up a light fixture...baseboards, etc)
you have to have a desire to learn and a lot of energy
