Anyone ever cruise with an infant?
We're debating on where to go in Nov/Dec...DD will be just shy of her 1st birthday...anyone ever cruise with an infant close to that age, and if so what were the pros and cons???
thanks!

DH and I were JUST talking about this. He is dead-set against it right now though...........Our children are just about the same age.

Re: Anyone ever cruise with an infant?
DS was 9 months on a 5 day cruise to Canada....
He was at an awkward age, not quite walking so it was a little challenging...He was also a bit too young for the kiddie programs Carnival offered so we were only allowed to go into the kids playroom for 1 hour a day for "free play" ...He loved it in there , but an hour wasn't long enough...
Our peticular cruise was chilly, so the pool was out which would have helped tremendously..

That's my reasoning! His is that it's not going to be fun for DS because he won't be able to "do anything" yet. He wants to go on the Disney cruise in "5 or 6 years".

ITA with this. My DS was 8 months when we cruised nad I'll be honest, it was a lot of WORK.
I am ALL for traveling (DS has traveled a ton and he is two) but I'd say an all inclusive v. a cruise IMO

Re: Anyone ever cruise with an infant?
We were just having this convo last week. We ultimately decided we are going to Disney next month with DS for 6 nights. Disney is kid friendly, and alot that he can do.
Our travel agent kept telling us to cruise, but I have to many what if's. What if he gets sick and we are at sail, what happens then? We would be outside the US, and with shots etc. I was worried. I figure in a few years we will go on a cruise, when we can utilize some more cruise things, but now we will stick to disney!

Re: Anyone ever cruise with an infant?
We're taking DD on a cruise right after she turns 2.
Just a couple of things: ~ at 1, I don't think any cruiseline will take them in the Kids Club, so they will be attached to you 24/7. ~ most cruiselines do not allow children with swim diapers in the pool (although it is questionable how often that is really enforced). You would have to find a ship that allows swim diapered babies, and I don't think there are too many options.
Cruise Critic is a great resource, and they have a great family section: Cruise Critic - Family Cruising

Re: Anyone ever cruise with an infant?
we are planning to go on a Mediterranean cruise with DS. I was reading some books at barnes and nobles and there are some very baby friendly cruise ships that offer babysitting. all the cruises i've been on gave us mostly short times on shore so I figure that DS will be able to hang out in the stroller.

Re: Anyone ever cruise with an infant?
I think we are going to try one next year. DS will be 9-10 months. The cruise we are looking at is from NYC to Bermuda, and basically you are in Bermuda the entire trip.

this is similar to what we're looking at except its NY, Florida and the Bahamas...so its not too too far away.... To the PP I did read about the swim diaper thing, which freaked me out, her being attached to me 24/7 I think will go anywhere we go, since I don't know if I'm ready to trust hotel or cruise staff taking care of her just yet... I'm overly anal
Thanks so much for all the input!!!

Re: Anyone ever cruise with an infant?
I went on a Princess cruise out of Brooklyn when DS1 was 9 months old. We still look back on the trip so fondly and would do it again in a heartbeat!. The best part of leaving from Brooklyn, of course, is no plane ride, you just wheel right onto the ship. It is true, they can not go int he regular pool unless they are potty trained (and they strongly enforce this!). With Princess though, there is a children's wading pool that they can go in. The water is continuously flowing so it is less dangerous if there is an "accident" since they do not use chlorine on cruises. We went with my in-laws and BIL so DH and I were able to speak away a little and have "us" time as well as massages, etc. The first night, we dressed DS in a really cute outfit for dinner. With all the excitement from the day and the sun, etc, he fell asleep by the time the appetizers came. By the 2nd night, all the little ones on the ship were in their PJs for dinner! DS slept in his stroller most of the time, including naps, so it worked out really great for us. They provided baby food or the chef would have pureed food for us fresh if we wanted. I brought bottles of water and powdered formula (I didn't want to risk DS not liking the flavor of whatever type of bottled water they had on board) Hmm, what else can I tell you? FM me with any specific questions!

Re: Anyone ever cruise with an infant?
We are going on a cruise the week before labor day. DD will be 9 months. We were definitely taking a vacation and we expect to have her with us 24/7 anywhere we go. We are typically beach resort vacation people, but wanted something where there are more choices of activities (beyond horseback riding, atv tours, scuba...things you can't do with a baby) indoors, because we can't keep DD at the beach/pool/outdoors all day. We thought a cruise would be a good option because they have more things to do, we got a great room that looks like we would enjoy hanging out in the room, and because it's not the same wake up, eat breakfast, go to the beach routine every day, which is what we usually do on vacation, and wouldn't work well with an infant. I know the cruise ship has a program called "aqua baby" for babies 6 months and up.
