Anyone ever get the 3hr glucose test?
What are they thinking?
You may have a sugar probem, so don't eat for 12 hours, and then drink this crap and nothing else for another 3 hours....
Then we'll stick you with a needle 6 times, and give you the hourly test of "can you pur urine into a tiny vial when you are THIS dizzy?"
UGH.

I took it when I was pregnant.
Being pregnant and having to fast, then getting stuck over and over was TORTURE!!!!!!!!!!
Do you have to take this? If you do, I wish you luck. It truly stinks!

After putting it off for 9 months I did it yesterday. I nearly passed out (with the urine cup in my hand....FUN...sorry for TMI)
it suuuuuuuucked.
I'm glad it's over with..now I am waiting for result.s
ETA: Also, I am avery hard stick..so they had to stick me a LOT, and move the needle around and get blood for strange and painful places.. (between my pinky and ring finger, for one)..and it's even harder when you're dehydrated from not drinking and I'm sure since my sugar was low, my BP was low. UGH... I feel really sorry for anyone who has to get this repeatedly.

yeha definitely. but it's really hard. I was so dizzy after the first bloods (before the drink) that the woman said "maybe you should put this off"
I said "I don't think I'm ever going to feel great after not eating for 12 hours...just give me that glucose, I'll feel better"

I had the one hour a few months ago when I was preggo, failed it b/c nobody told me to watch what I eat the night before, so i had a piece of chocolate cake around 9pm.
Then I failed it so I had to take the 3 hour test, I absolutely loved having blood taken out of me 3 times and then going to my regular dr who decided he needed SOME MORE of my blood so stuck me with the needle again!

My mom asked that too, but I guess not. But it might not have helpoed for me because they baely got the 2 vials they needed from any one spot, especially since I was so dehydrated. I am SOOO bruised. I look like someone beat me up all over both arms and ahnds!

Twice now. The 1st time I didn't have to go thru the urine in a cup but at the hospital when I had it done they did- even though it was for the same dr.

It absolutely SUCKS and they should really find a different way to go about it.

you have to have a 1 hour glucose as a screening when pregnant. if you fail that (like i did) then you go for the 3 hour.

That test sucks. I've been through it twice. Both times were negative for (gestational) diabetes.

It must be 10000x worse when you're prego!
For me, we're testing for hypoglycemia. I've passed out, or come close a few times, I get very sick when I don't eat..and my doc thinks that my body is storing glucose before I can burn it (which would explain me constantly gaining weight even thought I eat pretty well). They never did the 1 hour test with me, but my fasting glucose is usually on the low side.
I know I should hope it finds nothing, but sometimes you just want an explanation. However, I really hope that it if it does show a precondition for diabetes, that it's something we can jump on to treat and prevent now.
I'm pretty nervous, but I am SO glad I got it over with. I hope I never have to go for it again.

It was the ONLY time I have felt nauseated/dizzy/totally uncomfortable during the 7 months I have been pregnant. There HAS to be a better way!!
Good news is..I passed!! I hope you do too!! Is this the normal diabetes test too? I thought it was just for GD...oh brother! What a PITA!

This is what they do for any type of sugar metabolism problem. What they suspect I have now is sort of the opposite of diabetes, my body clears the glucose out of my bloodstream too quickly. Of course this can lead to diabetes or GD. I'll let you know how it goes.
I already know that i get sick if I don't eat for a few hours, so it was murder!
