Anyone ever get these debt settlement offers??

Are they for real? Is this a scam? What do they do to your credit? TIA

I just got the following email:

On January 27th we mailed you a Debt Settlement Notification Letter through the U.S. Postal Service. If you have not yet received that letter please watch for it in the mail over the next few days. It is important that you contact us toll-free at 1-877-247-7306 within 10 days of receiving your letter.

You have been selected for a debt reduction program. You can respond by telephone now to this email if you have not received or have misplaced your Notification Letter.

With the implementation of the Credit Card Accountability, Responsibility, and Disclosure Act of 2009, the following credit card companies have adjusted their policies:

JP Morgan Chase, Citiba nk, Bank of America, Discover, American Express, Capital One, HSBC, GE Money, Target and Wells Fargo

Because of financial hardship and/or your current high credit card balance(s) you may now be eligible for a reduction in your outstanding credit card debt by up to 75%. This is a reduction in the amount of money you currently owe.

Banks are now working with selected consumers to reduce principal and interest charges. If you qualify your total revolving credit card debt would be reduced.

If you have not yet received your letter please watch for it in the mail over the next few days. It is important that you contact us toll-free at 1-877-247-7306 within 10 days of receiving your letter. You can also respond by telephone now at 1-877-247-7306 to this email if you have not received or have misplaced your Notification Letter.

I toss them.
I'm too skeptical to believe in them.

I get them and they go right in the garbage

you have to be months behind to even qualify

I might have debt- but my credit is still good-

Re: Anyone ever get these debt settlement offers??

Stay away from anything like this.

If you need debt help there are many way to stay in your community and get the help you need.

You have a ton of different ways to do this YOURSELF. Plus, most of the time they are going to do (for pay) what you can ALSO do for free.

-Call the banks and get intrest reduced
-call the bank and have them figure a payment program
-..or figure a way to settle the debt for pennies on dollar.

If you settle, make sure that it does not go on your report as a "settlement". Tell the bank you want it listed as "paid in full".

Toss it!

Remember.. any offer that sounds too good to be true, usually is! No one is going to magically reduce your debt by 75%

Re: Anyone ever get these debt settlement offers??

I just want to add...I was able to get most of my interest rates reduced- my highest rate is 10% - my lowest is 0%

On a HUGE amount of debt I pay $340 in interest a month

I have 4 cards enrolled in pay down plans- meaning after 40-58 months - the card is paid off

I have paid off 43% of my debt in less then 1 year

the only effect this has had on my credit is 30pts b/c Amex charged off my balance - even though I was in a hardship program

it's alot of work- but it can be done

if anyone needs some inspriation- FM me- I will tell you how much debt I was left with after my husband died- if I can do it- trust me- you can- and I am self employed and still paying for his car

Ford was nice and gave me a break on the last 2 payments- my friend is taking it- first he was going to buy it but now we are just transfering it

No one was rushing when there was 2 feet of snow...but now he wants it

I was about 1 foot from it being crushed by a tree on saturday!
