Re: Anyone ever go through BOCES...
I went through BOCES to get my certification. I was certified out of state and they helped me get reciprocal certification. I don't think it was anymore expensive then doing it on my own and the certification is supposed to come faster if you go through BOCES. This was a like 5 years ago, so things might have changed. I went through Eastern Suffolk. If you call the main number to your local boces, they should be able to get you in touch with the right person. It was good because I met with her and she looked over all my paperwork and helped me submit it. HTH
ETA: I just reread your post and now I'm not sure if you mean to submit paperwork for certification or to take classes towards a new one. Sorry if I got it wrong.

if you mean to take the classes for another certification (i.e. another degree or professional certificate program) BOCES does NOT do this. you would have to go through a college or university that has the program you're interested in.
BOCES will elp you get the physical certificate from the state so that you're certified, but the course work, internship, and whatever else is required must be done through an accredited university.

I think she's talking about taking classes through boces. Some BOCES will sponsor programs through universities for school districts. I know Western Suffolk BOCES does this. They have an administration program through Stony Brook. It is the Stony Brook program with Stony Brook professors, it's just facilitated by western suffolk boces. The courses are taught at boces by stonybrook professors and it's open to teachers in districts that western suffolk boces serves. In essence, it's the Stony Brook program just at BOCES, like a sateliette program. Sometimes it's at a reduced rate. I know some teachers in my district did this. It was convenient but I don't know if it was less expensive.
