Anyone ever have any breast cysts removed?
I have to go for a consultation with a breast surgeon on Fri. because apparently I have three small cysts that need to be removed although my Dr. stated they are benign. Has anyone ever had this done? Why do they need to come out if they are benign? I'm trying not to freak

Re: Anyone ever have any breast cysts removed?
I had one removed - but it was closer to my underarm, then in my actual breast.
The way I looked at it was, if the doctor thought it should come out, then it's coming out.
What doctor?

Re: Anyone ever have any breast cysts removed?
I had one removed in 2002, it was the fastest thing I have a minimal scar on the top of my BB I forget its there, the after pain the next day was a bit uncomfortable, I cant imagine girls who have inplants, the pain they must feel. I also had a FANTASTIC doctor, who tried many alternitve things before surgery. I havent had any problems since. I did have to start mamo's earlier than most woman. But other than that...piece of cake. Good Luck

Re: Anyone ever have any breast cysts removed?
I have, biopsies, core biopsies, cysts and fibroadenomas surgically removed...you name it.
Most have been benign, one was precancerous, so that was a more severe surgery. But my feeling is, if it shouldn't be there, get it out.
If you have any questions, I'm here or FM me.

Re: Anyone ever have any breast cysts removed?
I had a fibroid removed from my breast. It was benign but I was still scared. I had it done when I was 20. The surgery was a one day thing, I was in and out of the hospital in a few hours. It was not bad at all....FM me if you want more info.

Re: Anyone ever have any breast cysts removed?
I had one removed about 4 years ago. The reason I opted to have it removed was that the dr. had to make sure it was benign (although she was 90% sure it was). It was either have it removed, or have a needle biopsy then and a follow-up every 6 months for the next 18 months. I figured there was something there that wasn't supposed to be, so get it out. It's a fast surgery, I was a little sore afterward, but I even went into work for a half-day the next day. You can't even see the scar (although that probably depends on where the doctor makes the incision).

Re: Anyone ever have any breast cysts removed?
I had a very large one removed when I was 17 years old. The reason they wanted it out even though it was benign was because they felt it could only lead to problems in the future - leaving something "foreign" in your body. It wasn't as bad as I had feared, and I healed very nicely. HTH

Yes, I had a nasty scar at first. I think my general surgeon was more concerned with getting it out than with the scar I would have. So after it was completely healed, I went to a plastic surgeon who cut out the scar tissue and re-stiched it. You can hardly see the scar now.....before I had the plastic surgeon fix it, the scar was raised and very noticable. You could even see the stich lines before
now it is just a fine line that only I notice I am sure...unless you are staring at my boob, you would never see it

Mine is more in my underarm - and the surgeon butchered me. I have a huge gaping recess in my underarm. I had an infection too but the doctor didn't seem to care, would not give me meds or clean out the wound. I'll never go back to him again!
I guess I could goto the plastic surgeon, like you did but considering its my underarm, and I never wear sleeveless tops, its not worth it to me.

Re: Anyone ever have any breast cysts removed?
I had mine injected to shrink them, they said it wasn't necessary for removal. I was also told to up my Vitamin A and E intake.

Re: Anyone ever have any breast cysts removed?
I had a fibrodenoma removed from my right breast in 2004. It was right behind my nipp!e and painful. It was benign but like someone else said, if it shouldn't be there, get it out! It was an ambulatory surgery and I was completely knocked out for it. It was scary but I know I needed to get it out for my own sanity

Thank you girls for the reassurance. I'm sure they are nothing but now a days I guess you really need to be sure.

I had the same thing in 2002. I had a great surgeon- Barbara Axelrod. She wrote a book on breast health. I had no pain and the surgery was over before it was scheduled to begin. I was given local anesthesia, but was slightly awake. All I remember is asking the anesthesialogist to scratch my nose over and over.

Re: Anyone ever have any breast cysts removed?
i have had 3 removed... every time i feel one, i do not care if it is a benign or not... my girlfriend was 33 when she past away and it was very very sudden... i do not take chances. it's not bad at all the procedure.. they put an iv in and knock you out, in a twilight zone.. then in about 30 min's if that you are awake and you say for about another hour for observation and then go home... barly any pain.. if you have any other questions just let me know!!
