i'm not sure...but I know they used to have to pack your sinues for several days and when they take it out it was supposed to be very painful. but now they do it with lasers so the healing time is faster.

Re: Anyone ever have surgery to help ease their sinuses?
I had sinus surgery twice... once to remove a pollup and second to fix a deviated septum. It was done as out patient surgery. It maybe took 2-3 hours and I was home in the afternoon. The most painful part was not even the surgery, it was when they removed the packing in your nose a day or two later. Honestly it felt like they were pulling your brains through your nostrils (I cringe thinking about it). The most annoying part was having to breathe through your mouth.

Re: Anyone ever have surgery to help ease their sinuses?
I'm actually having this done in June. Because of work and an upcoming vacation, I didn't want to do it sooner.
I get frequent sinus infections, and it's due in part to a severely deviated septum, and I have a bone spur that is blocking one of my sinus passages.
The surgery will be done in the hospital, but on an out-patient basis. I'll be out of work for about a week. I hear the most painful part is the first day after surgery and the day they take all the packing out.
I'm really looking forward to breathing, and I can't wait to get a decent nights sleep!

Re: Anyone ever have surgery to help ease their sinuses?
I had this done at Manhattan Eye ear throat (MEETH) back in 08/03. I highly recommend my ENT (Dr. David Edelstein) - he is affliated with several good hospitals in NYC. I live on the island but wanted thought the care in the city was better.
I had severe sinus problems for many many years - it was the best thing I ever did. I had my septum corrected, my turbinates shrunk, my maxillary sinuses opened up, and polyps removed. I used to have sinus headaches every day for 90% of the year and I was having 6-10 sinus infections a year - I can finally breathe thru my nose and I haven't had a single infection since the surgery.
They do put in packing but the surgery is a day op procedure I went in around 6am and was home by about 2. It is uncomfortable but not miserable. The packing was removed at 8am the next morning. You do have to sleep propped/sitting up fro 5 days. But I did it over the summer and had my mom and DH sit with me and I watched a ton of movies.
It was really not horrible I had 4 wisdom teeth removed back in 1994 and they were all impacted - I thought that surgery was much worse than this was

No surgery, but years ago I had injections to help with swollen turbinates. It was a shot of cortisone up each nostril. It helped tremendously.
