anyone ever hear of nyc principals not wanting teachers with too many years for budget reasons
I heard today formk friend who works at a school in queens( good school) that there are 8 openings and the principal wants new collge grads without their masters so she doenst have to pay them so much. She said it all comes out of the individual schoo budgets now. Like each school does their own budgeting sort of thing. any ideas if this happens alot?

yes this is a fact. It would be harder to find a job as an older top teir teacher due to how the school is budgeted. They shouldnt have given back seniority transfers last contract.

That's what happened to me on LI, I was basically told by one SD that they weren't interviewing teachers with their masters!! That's why I am teaching down in VA now!

Re: anyone ever hear of nyc principals not wanting teachers with too many years for budget reasons
It used to be an issue- but they are in the process of changing the funding formula in NYC because there are schools with too many new teachers. There is one in my building (I am in a complex with 3 schools) where nearly all the teachers are first and second year teachers. Needless to say, the school has some serious issues.
Now, a school will get money for X amount of teachers, as opposed to a dollar amount for salaries.
So if a principal wants newbies, I would guess it's more to get people who are going to be more likely to toe the line and not question things.
