Anyone ever heard of this? Radiation Shot..
So, my shower is on Saturday. A close family friend called my mom to tell her that she had a radiation shot on Monday due to a heart lining issue and the Dr. told her to be careful around kids and pregnant woman. She said she told the Dr. about the shower, but the dr said it was okay to come, just not to hug me. There will be another preggo there and some kids too. She said she wanted to come and would stay away from me...but that if we didn't want her to, she understood. My mom wasn't sure what to say, and we've never heard of this.
Do you think we should tell her we'd feel more comfortable if she doesn't come?? I have a call in to my Dr. (because of course my mom didn't tell me until I called her AFTER i left the office) to see what she says.
Another family member said this woman's daughter is not even letting her see her grandkids for a week or so because of the shot...

Re: Anyone ever heard of this? Radiation Shot..
Yes, my FIL has to get radiation shots and is not allowed near children or pregnant women as well. I *believe* that everything is ok after 48 hours though. That is what my FIL's doctor said. That is why he has it done on Fridays, and by the time Monday comes around for me to drop DS off, we are good.
If the woman is not within 5-10 feet of you, I would think it would be ok for her to be there.

I have heard of this. Also people who are injected with radioactive dye for certain CAT scans and tests etc have the same warning.
I would think that as long as she wasn't standing or sitting on top of you and you just keep your distance that it would be ok.

Re: Anyone ever heard of this? Radiation Shot..
thanks girls! I talked to my Dr. she said Monday until Saturday and the radiation will be one by then. She said it wouldn't affect a preggo unless they were within 4 feet of the person with radiation anyway. She also said, I have nothing to worry about unless I plan on touching her urine/feces sooo, I'm all good.

Re: Anyone ever heard of this? Radiation Shot..
I've heard a situation where the father had to get radiation and the mom was prego. The father lived in a hotel room the entire time he had his treatment while she was prego.
Maybe its one of those unknown things that has more to do with your level of paranoia.
