Anyone Ever Refaced Their Kitchen and Liked the Result?
I just had my kitchen refaced by Kitchen Magic and must adimit I wish I had new cabinets instead.
This is supposed to be one of the better companies out there but I find the work could be done better and the difference between the inside and outside of the cabinets definitely stand out.
The cost is not that cheap either. Probably almost the same as getting new cabinets... I wish someone had warned me against refacing. :(

Same thing happened to me. I get annoyed every time I go into the kitchen. And DH would kill me if I said I wanted to get new cabinets, so I'll have to deal with them for a few years.

Did you use KM too?
I like the doors to the cabinets 'cus they are nice looking cherry doors with frosted glass but am so upset that the workers ignore the little details that makes the difference between high end cabinets vs. cheaply done refacing.
We did have them also put in a new vanity and new built in entertainment unit and those came out great. This leads me to believe that refacing is really hard to do right.

I juts had mine done and love it. There were some tiny things about the insides I didnt like but they came back and fixed it.
We priced a new kitchen and it was out of our range. This worked great for us and looks fabulous. I love my kitchen right now.
We used US Cabinet Refacing.

I would ask them to come back and foward them this thread.
I have a good friend that refaced three years ago. She used a local guy in Northport and he did a beautiful job. She had custom cabinets to begin with and a very large kitchen (it still cost her $14K). He came back twice and I am astonished that these are refaced cabinets. He added crown molding, corbels, etc.
This is something that I struggel with because I too have custom cabinets, that are solid wood and incredibly well made. Every contractor I have ever spoken to (including my bil) have told me they cost mega bucks and I should reface them.
Good luck. I hope they come back and make you happy.

sorry you are not happy post pics maybe it looks good but you can see every minor detail.
KM came and gave me a quote a few years ago for just refacing. I ended up redoing my whole kitchen with a contractor for about the same price they quoted me. I had some extras done like moving the washer/dryer, moving electirical but that was seperate.

Re: Anyone Ever Refaced Their Kitchen and Liked the Result?
The kitchen is not done yet but so far I've noticed small details:
1. the wood and veneer on top of the old door, the edges are not smoothed out so it's pretty obvious that it was refaced.
2 .the plaster was coming off the areas where they ripped off the old cabinet but they didn't replaster it for painting...
When I mentioned this, they just said it's not on the blueprint so not their job. I don't know how level of detail can be part of the bluepting and how they can just leave the kitchen like that...
So far I'm not recommending anyone to reface their kitchen, especially by Kitchen Magic, 'cus for the price you can definitely replace the entire kitchen for just a few grand more.

I'll post pictures. I have no doubt it'll look nice in pictures but the fact still remain that up close it's obvious it's not the highest quality refacing job. I wonder if that's even possible!

If they are still working on it this is a good time to call and complain before they finish the job you should withhold payment until they fix what you dont like. Call the sales rep that set this up!

They refaced the doors? Four ours, all the doors are completely new. They replaced all the doors and drawers.

Re: Anyone Ever Refaced Their Kitchen and Liked the Result?
We had our kitchen refaced by KM a couple of months ago and we're really pleased with their work and the finish product. It was the most cost efficient route for us since the inside of the cabinets were still in great shape and the original cabinets were real wood.
We had cabinets ripped out and we didn't replace the space with new ones so there were holes there. It's not their responsibility to plaster or patch up the wall unless you made arrangements beforehand in your contract for them to do so. I don't even think they really offer to do patch work. Our contract was pretty specific that the carpenters will only work on the cabinets. They won't do anything that is electrical, plumbing, or contractor work related.
Please post pics if you can because I'm not sure what you mean by the wood and veneer edges on the doors aren't smooth. They replaced all the doors, drawers and hardware for us and only veneered the face of the cabinets.
You should contact your project manager ASAP if your not happy with how things are turning out. I felt their customer service was always very accomodating and responsive. Good luck.
