Anyone ever take DC into the city for...
a parade? I was thinking of bringing the Animal in for St. Patricks Day but I don't know if it will be too much of a hassle, crowd, etc.
DH marches in it and she will be almost 10 months.....what would you do?

That's funny because I was thinking of doing the same thing. I think I will probably end up NOT taking her, but I'll see as we get closer. I'm just worried about the large crowds and having a small baby.

We only go because we get tix (either for the steps @ St. Pat's or the bleachers on CP). I wouldn't take the boys otherwise. It's really tough to manage a stroller in the crowds.

Re: Anyone ever take DC into the city for...
I took my little cousins last year. A 5 yr old, a 4 year old and a 1 year old. 2 strollers and my sister's help(their mom was working, but their dad was marching, so I bit the bullet and volunteered. It really wasn't that bad at all. They were really good, we did not stay for the whole thing though because it got cold. We were all the way up by the park, park side, so there was room for them to roam and I could pick them up and show them the zoo from over the wall.
I say go for it!
here's my sister and the baby bundled up
honestly, the weather would concern me more then the crowd. If its nice out you have nothing to worry about.

I would do it.
We took them in for the Thanksgiving Day parade.
I think it all depends on where you're going to sit & when you're planning on leaving the city. Would he be able to meet you afterwards?

Re: Anyone ever take DC into the city for...
I would stay towards the end of the parade route because thats where DH parks his car. When he is done marching he aways walks back to us.
If it is snow, rain or really cold I won't....but if it was nice I wanted to. I am worried the trains will be insane though. Last time I went into the parade on a Saturday it was standing room ony

Re: Anyone ever take DC into the city for...
Aidan was 10 months old for his first St. Patricks Day Parade too
I depends on where you need to be, midtown is crazy.
The stroller wasn't a hassle for me because I didn't spend much time right up on 5th Avenue. It was very crowded so instead of waiting around in the cold for marchers I was looking for I met them at their line up spot instead.
Also, unless you are going to an after parade event and want to eat, all the restaurants/pubs are crazy. I lucked out in that the restaurant downstairs from where I used to work (46th St) let me keep the stroller in the coat room while we ate and while I went up to visit my office (walk up). So I suggest reservations.
Honestly if you want to watch the parade for an extended amount of time, I'd go uptown (60,'s 70's) the crowds are much thinner there.
I drove in too so I didn't have to deal with the idiots on the train.
Bundle up and have fun!
