Re: Anyone ever work at a private school?
I worked at a Catholic school for 6 years. I think a major difference is the money. Private schools pay less.

Re: Anyone ever work at a private school?
Thank you both for your replys. The money is not so much an issue right now. I just want to be working at the moment. Right now I sub and I haven't worked since xmas. slim pickings! So, it would be better than that. How are the parents usually? Thanks!

Re: Anyone ever work at a private school?
Many of the girls who go to this school are well off ...Again my mom is a nurse but has a lot of dealings with the parents....she says like most schools parents are ok...she gets some real winners....the "I pay your salary" ones...and she laughs and says..actually YOU DON'T! But there are many who are just very nice and appreciative

Re: Anyone ever work at a private school?
Thanks Kathleen. I have a funny feeling I might get the job. I sent in my resume at 4, and got a call at 6. I am so nervous because I have never taught before! Any advice?

Re: Anyone ever work at a private school?
I work at a private, nondenominational independent school. So does my sister (different school).
Plus: wonderful students who behave well and tend to be motivated (my worst problem is students missing h/w), great colleagues, small class sizes (my largest is 14!), freedom with curriculum, no state tests, fewer formal obervations/lesson plans, supportive administration, more days off (I had a 2 and a half week Christmas break, a 2 week spring break, and graduation is June 9)
Minus: salary (though to be honest, it is not so far off from public -- about $5000), benefits (no state health insurance!), no support for learning disabled students, some parents can be very demanding

Re: Anyone ever work at a private school?
I work at a catholic school now. If money isn't an issue and you want to work, definitely go for it! For the most part, I find it to be a very supportive environment. The parents are involved but in a good way and you really feel a strong sense of community there.
