Anyone get a UTI while pregnant?
Ive never had one before, but the drs. office just called and said I had one. Now Im all paranoid because I have to take an antibiotic plus I have a kidney disease, so its not so great. If you had one, did you take an antibiotic? Did you have any symptoms? How do you know it gets better if you dont have any symptoms to begin with? and how do you know it hasnt spread to your kidneys?

Re: Anyone get a UTI while pregnant?
I had one very early in my pregnancy - about 8 weeks. They give you an antibiotic to get rid of it. At your next OB appt when you pee in the cup, they will be able to tell if it is gone or now.
It wasn't a big deal at all, so try not to worry.

Re: Anyone get a UTI while pregnant?
I kept getting cultures done, and they were all coming back positive. It seemed like I was on constant antibiotics for months during the first trimester! I finally went to see a specialist in NYC, and after looking at the lab work, he felt that all the samples were contaminated, and in order to get a clean sample, I need a cath (catheter) sample (not fun, but it was the answer).
Turns out this MD was right...I had no UTI, and I probably didn't have them at all and was on antibiotics for no reason.
There are safe antibiotics for pregnancy. It is important to keep this under a close eye, if left untreated, UTI could escalate (one of my very good friend's had a UTI that went untreated, she ended up loosing her baby in the 6th month; don't panic, she had a lot of warning signs that the her horrible MDs ignored, like bleeding).
A lot of pregnant women don't have any symptoms when they have a UTI, I think that's why OBs are so careful with this problem...strange, because when you are not pregnant, you definitely know when you are coming down with one.
Good luck, I hope this clears up soon.

Re: Anyone get a UTI while pregnant?
I did, it ended up being the sign that i was pregnant. I didnt know and the doctor didnt check to see if i was and i took cipro. Then a week later i found out i was pregnant. It turns out Cipro is okay to take while pregnant. Kidney infection is alot more painful.. Two weeks ago i was in the hospital for Kidney infection, boy did that hurt. I was unable to lie on my back or my right side. I had to be put on antibiotics and pain killers that would knock ya out.. The doctors wouldnt give you anything that isnt okay for the baby to have.

Re: Anyone get a UTI while pregnant?
I had one at 17 weeks. I was put on Macrobid 2x a day for 7 days. I thought I was peeing alot because of preganacy but it turned out to be a uti. Once the infection cleared up I was able to go an hour or 2 without having to pee. With the infection I was lucky if I made it 15 minutes without having to pee . I heard if it is in the kidneys you will have a high fever. If it is just a uti there will be a mild to no fever.
