Anyone getting a carrier?
I am interested in one, but don't know which is best. I've heard some are not supportive of their hips and that concerns me.
any suggestions?

If this is what you are talking about, we already have the baby bjorn original, we recieved it for a christmas present.
I read the reviews on the babiesrus site and it sounds great, so we will definately be giving it a try

Re: Anyone getting a carrier?
I want to get a sling for when the baby is little.....and I have been researching the bjorn and another carrier, the ergo baby carrier (they have it at BBB) it looks to be for slightly older babies, but i like the feature of the hip belt for less strain on your back so you can use it longer, ergobabycarrier.com. i just want to go try it on now

I wanted one, but I think I would be too nervous that the baby would fall out, or that I did it wrong, or something...Im one of those crazies

Re: Anyone getting a carrier?
We're getting a Bjorn for my husband to use & a sling for me (I hear they're good for nursing discreetly) I'm getting 1 called a Peant Shell-I'm due in Feb & it's fleece (I'll also get a cotton 1 for when the weather warms up).

Re: Anyone getting a carrier?
We got a baby bjorn...with a lumbar support because we're old and my lower back can't take any more strain.

Not sure- but I'm sure they wouldn't market them for babies if they weren't safe.
eta- for little infants it's like a hammock.

True!
What is the weight they go up too? Maybe I'll look into that!

The fabric of the sling creates a pouch that holds the baby. Slings are great because you can use them for little babies and older ones, too. My 14-month old still goes in a sling regularly. Ergos are great, too -- DS loves ours.
I'm not a fan of the Bjorn -- they put a lot of strain on your back and your baby will be too heavy to carry comfortably after a few months -- some people are also concerned that they put too much pressure on the baby's hips.
Buy Buy Baby carries Hotslings and Ergos. You can also find a lot of options at attachedtobaby.com and alongfortheride.biz. Feel free to FM me if you have questions. Babywearing is something of a passion for me!

Re: Anyone getting a carrier?
I saw the Peanut Sell on BRU site.
Are there other recommended brands?
I like the fact that it protects mom's back AND Babys Hips. Baby's hips was a major concern for me.

I have one just like that. When they're little you just lay them in it like a little hammock. This site has pictures of different ways you can use it.

Re: Anyone getting a carrier?
I have a Hot Sling that I actually just listed on the sale/swap thread since I need a different size now. It's great and convenient and so much better on the back than a regular carrier. I highly recommend a sling.

Re: Anyone getting a carrier?
i thought i would love a sling, but for some reason i was always paranoid that ds would fall out also, when he was very young he didn't like to be in the cradle hold in the sling, and i didn't like that the material covered his face. now that he is a little bigger i am going to give the sling another try.
LOVE the bjorn - ds is in it all the time, and he especially loves it now that he has graduated to the forward-facing position. but i would recommend getting the one with lumbar support.

Re: Anyone getting a carrier?
I used a moby wrap while he was a newborn. The newborn hug hold puts no pressure on their hips at all. They can go in it from birth. It also works very well as they get older. I just find it a pain to wrap myself when I'm about to go into a store. (I find it easy to do the wrap and I have gotten very quick at it-- but the tails drag on the floor when you wrap which is why it isn't good in a parking lot.)
Now that he's older, I use the Ergo Baby Carrier . It can be used on the front, back or hip. I also find it very comfortable. My DS is already 23 lbs 7 oz at 8 months and it is still very comfortable to carry him. (I have read comments from many moms with the Bjorn that as the baby approaches 20 lbs, they get very uncomfortable in it.)
Another carrier I've heard good things about, that is similar to the Ergo is the Beco baby carrier .

Re: Anyone getting a carrier?
I had the Baby Bjorn and I didn't really like it much. It put a lot of strain on my back. When my DS was about 6 months I got the Ultimate Baby Wrap from BRU and I loved it! It was so comfortable and you can put the baby in so many different positions. We went on a cruise with DS when he was 6 months old and I walked around with him in it all day and he didn't feel heavy at all!
