Not that being a SAHM isn't FT - because it is.

How did you come to the decision and was it really hard at first? Baby #2 is coming in February and financially it doesn't make that much sense with the cost of daycare, etc.

TIA

Yes, I did in May! I now consider myself a reluctant SAHM Chat Icon It actually wasn't a decision at all--family watched DD and we didn't feel right asking them to watch a 2nd for free (because each one also watched other children) and DH refused to entertain the idea of daycare, which wasn't cost effective anyway.

I think I prefer working--there, I said it! I don't think dealing with the 2 is difficult, really, it's just being at home in itself. But, I realize it's a finite period of time and that their lives go by so quickly. Also, on rainy (and soon to be snowy) days, staying in is not so bad Chat Icon

A friend of mine, who was also a work colleague did this. I spoke with her about it at length, basically because she was an integral part of our department and I could not believe she was not returning. Basically, she did not feel like her salary, bonuses, raises, etc. would cover the cost of daycare for 2, plus she felt that it would be easier for her children to get to know each other if they were home with her. I speak with her every now and again & she loves being home with them.

Just wanted to say thanks for posting this question. I am interested in the feedback as well. When we have #2 I'll be considering going to P/T work at least and I'm not sure how I feel about that.

Re: Anyone go from a FT working mom to a SAHM after baby #2 arrived?

If I added up the cost of before and afternoon care for my 2nd grader and daycare for the baby plus gas for the week and etc..........it really didn't pay all that much for me to go back to work. I would be bringing some money home but it didn't compensate all that I would be sacraficing. We knew if there was a will there was a way. So we did a budget and considered everything. So as of July I was offically a SAHM. My 2nd grader is doing better in school b/c she is happier that I can devote more time to her and help her with her homework. She's no longer has to leave so early and come home so late. It was such a long day for her as well. I also get to be home with my 6 month old and it's the best gift anyone could ever give me. Since I worked FT with DD #1 I appreciate being home with DD #2 so much more. I am expecting again in March. So I'll have an 8 yr old and 2 babies under 1 years old. So I will be busy. Financially.......If the going gets tough my husband will play around with his dependents on his W-2 so he can bring more home weekly instead of getting it back. But that's if push comes to shove. Right now we're making it happen. I honestly have to say that I have never been happier. I no longer have to use all my vacation days for when my 2nd grader is off from school. I am home everyday and when DH takes off we are all together. I LOVE IT!!!!

I am going to be a SAHM when our second comes. I want to be there for Noah on the school run and for after school activities, and as well as that it doesn't pay for me to go back to work, my salary would be only a little bit more than sending 2 kids to daycare.

I am worried that I will miss work, but I have a big group of friends who are SAHM's and PT Working Moms and they will keep me busy!!

I am probably going to be a SAHM when we have #2 unless I can find a reasonable nanny bc daycare will be too much $$$. I am not working to pay for daycare!!
