Re: Anyone have a Ford Focus?

I would recommend NOT to get it. My DH bought it last year, he has a long commute and thought the same thing about the gas mileage.

8 months after the purchase the drivers airbag light kept going on and off, it was at the dealership 3 x over the course of the next 3 months and it was "fixed", allegedly.

Then 16 months after the purchase the transmission started going and the airbag light came on. Over the course of 8 weeks the car was back to the dealership (on Route 112 in Patchogue - who are incredibly rude and inept) 5 times, when they eventually had to completely replace the transmission. Then a week later the airbag light came on again. They ahd the car for over a week trying to figure out the problem and then eventually had to rip out the entire airbag system and replace it.

Re: Anyone have a Ford Focus?

I'm on my 2nd focus. I love them. My first was a 2003, no problems other than it was in a horrific accident and was in the shop for 2 months. Got it back and had it re-evaluated by my mechanic who gave it a clean bill of health. I just sold it last Aug and got a 2007. So far so good. It gets great gas mileage and is a comfortable little car to drive around.

Unfortunately I will be saying goodbye to it in June again and getting a Ford Escape. Although my little focus has the LATCH system for carseats, DH doesn't want me driving our new little Chat Icon around in a small carChat Icon .

Re: Anyone have a Ford Focus?

I had a friend who had a 2002. She had a lot of issues with it and wound up trading it in for another car.

Re: Anyone have a Ford Focus?

Thanks for the input! There is a 0.9% financiing sale this month so we figured we'd check it out. Although I would love a bigger car, it's just not in the budget right now.

I had a 2000.

It was cute and pretty comfortable but that thing was always in the repair shop. Chat Icon I was happy when my lease was over.

I've been leasing a 2007 since July of 06. So far it's been good to me (knock on wood), I like it and the price is right - $200 a month!

Re: Anyone have a Ford Focus?

My SIL had one and called it her FORD F U C K U S. She had to replace the transmission twice, and there were numerous trips to the repair shop in btw for issues, and even her clutch went at one point and she couldn't move her car. She traded it in and bought a Honda Accord.

my BIL is an engineer for Ford and the cars are not death machines- the pinto is long gone!

Sorry you had a bad experience but not every Ford focus or ford car is going to be bad.

I have a UK built Focus and I love it, its manual, really nippy, gets good mileage, and I love the fact that NO ONE WANTS TO STEAL IT.

I would buy a newer model when the time comes. Actually, we have 2 of them, my husband has a focus station wagon and I have a hatchback.

Re: Anyone have a Ford Focus?

I have an 03. I had to replace my transmission as well about a year after I got it. Luckily it was still under warranty so I didn't have to pay for it! I bought it used so that may have had something to do with it, as well (tranny going).

My husband hates my car, but I can't justify the expense to get something newer right now. It is pretty good on gas, and I basically use it to drive to see clients I can't get to via public transportation, as well as running my errands on weekends.

I have a 2002 Ford Focus. Knock on wood, I've only done routine maintenance. I don't love it but it's holding up pretty well (again knock on wood!) Gas mileage is decent. On average, I probably get about 26/28 MPG. I drive in traffic. On a long road trip with no traffic, steady speed I get well over 30 MPG.
