many of the 100 calorie packs are great snacks....
string cheese is always a standard....
weight watchers ice cream (they are the perfect portion size)...

I personally would stay away from the artificial sweeteners in the sugar free pudding. pb on crackers, big crunchy pickle, multi-grain english muffin with cream cheese, cottage cheese with some fresh fruit, yogurt. Add protein when you have a carb.

Re: Anyone have a good snack idea for Gestational Diabetes?
I finally met with the dietician last night & she told me to stay away from sugar free anything, but I LOVE the idea of the chocolate pudding & PB!
Some ideas she gave me: - Frozen Yogurt w/chopped nuts. - Triscuits & PB - Triscuits & LF Cheese - Cottage cheese & fruit

Re: Anyone have a good snack idea for Gestational Diabetes?
watch the peanut butters. alot of them have alot of added sugar which can affect teh carb count. even though its high in protein.
when i had GD i used to be ok to eat a small dish of ice cream. it didn't affect the numbers. but i couldn't do anything with bread.
i also used to have an apple with peanut butter on it. (again it was ok with my numbers)
alot of it is trial and error. if you want somethiing, try it and see how your numbers do. if they're bad, thats out, and try something else.

Re: Anyone have a good snack idea for Gestational Diabetes?
Thanks guys for the ideas. It is weird, when I follow the diet very strictly my #s are not always great but when I sort of eat what I want but in small portions I tend to have good #s....I was not having any artificial sweeteners but the dietitian said that Splenda is safe b/c it is made of sugar...so I am having it at times in moderation b/c I guess it is better having something sugar free w/ that then the sugar and my #s go high...8 weeks to go...we shall see, just trying to keep my #s good but it is very hard @ times b/c sometimes I am starving and want to eat more....

Any cheeses are low in carbs, including cottage; nuts; olives (i love olives); any raw vegetables; tuna (chunk for pregnant); diced chicken; eggs.
Fruit can be high in carbs, depending on the fruit. Stay away from breads and sweets. If you do have fruit or bread, pair it was a protein or fat; it will raise your blood sugar slower. I have been a diabetic for 25 years and this has been what the nutritionists have been preaching to me forever!

Re: Anyone have a good snack idea for Gestational Diabetes?
the 100 calorie packs are usually good. I liked to snack on the 100 cal packs of smartfood popcorn. Sometimes I'd have some pretzels (the small bag like you'd get out of a vending machine) with some peanut butter. Jiff makes snack size cups of peanut butter.
My standard evening snack was Rye trisket crackers with either swiss cheese, cheddar or american cheese.

I had GD and asked my OB about this (she is also VERY conservative) and she said Splenda in that small of an amount was okay since it was a better alternative to real sugar.
My issue was I needed to pretty much stay away from any type of carb since it always skyrocketed my blood sugars. Even cottage cheese made my numbers soar.

I was having the same problem - I was following the diet EXACTLY and my numbers were high. They ended up putting me on meds. Good luck - I hope your morning # is ok!

Re: Anyone have a good snack idea for Gestational Diabetes?
Alot of the problems with following the GD diet to a tee is that it doesn't work for everybody. For me i couldn't really have bread. And some fruits made my sugar spike. The one thing that i found that worked for me was that after i finished eating my meal I would have a handful of walnuts or almonds. And that kept my numbers good. But honestly the number of carbs they told me i could have was too much at some points in the day. It's all a trial and error thing. Good Luck!

Re: Anyone have a good snack idea for Gestational Diabetes?
Thanks!! Yay I think carbs in the morning may be too much for me....and that maybe I should just try having a protein, fat and milk....
I was nauseous today so I left work early, didn't eat much but I just ate many ritz crackers now...I know that that was prob not great to do b/c of the amt. of carbs but I could not think of eating anything else and I feel better from that....I guess a small cheat will just have to be b/c I did not know what else to have to feel better....will try to eat light dinner later, maybe some eggs and see how the #s are.
thanks!!
