Re: ANYONE HAVE A NEWBORN WITH REFLUX?

i have 2 babies with reflux and i didn't put cereal in their bottles at all. My ped is non negotiable when it comes to cereal before 6 months old.

Both were/are on meds for it-pepcid, then prevacid. My oldest had silent reflux-no spit up but acid back up and My little one though is still a spit up monster, but at least it doesn't hurt when it comes back up.

They do outgrow it. my oldest was weaned off meds at 15 months, but she's not the norm. My youngest is 6 months and we just tried to wean, but it was still hurting her.

I can say though the spitup with my little one has slowed alot! I only go through 2-3 bibs and 1 burp cloth a day where it used to be 6-8 bibs a day and at least 3 burp cloths-i used cloth diapers as burp cloths too.

Have you tried letting DC sleep on an incline?

feel free to fm me if you have any other questions, i'll help as much as possibleChat Icon

Re: ANYONE HAVE A NEWBORN WITH REFLUX?

yes ds had that... switched him to nutramigen, although I didnt see how that helped. but i also put a lil bit of cereal in every bottle. he was also on axid.
I also got him an incline for his crib, you can get that at BRU its $12, just ask them for a mattress wedge and tell them your baby has acid reflux, its near the boppy section.

fast fwd to when ds was 6 mos old (hes now 8), i took him off of the axid, my own choice, and on my own switched him to enfamil AR Lipil. he's doing great!!! decided that if I see my next baby with the same spit up problem, I'll use AR Lipil immediately, BC i didnt see the point with Nutramigen, he still spit up w/ that too.

Once your dc starts solids, it should ease up as well, The only time DS spits up now is if he just ate and wont sit still and wants to jump up and down.

Re: ANYONE HAVE A NEWBORN WITH REFLUX?

DD has reflux. My ped. said not to put the cereal in the bottle (but I have heard this does work for others). We started cereal last week after her 3 month check up and it was a disaster so I took her off until 6 months. I didn't feel she was ready. We tried Zantac, which she was allergic to, so we now do Mylanta 2cc, 3x a day. It works but I think we may need to increase it now that her weight went up.

About her sleeping in your bed, we had DD sleeping in her swing for almost two months and it helped immensely.

Good luck, HTH!

DD has reflux - she is 3 1/2 months now. We tried Enfamil AR but it didn't work well enough for us. We took her to a gastro specialist and he switched her to regular Enfamil with rice cereal. She's been better with it but she's also on prevacid and zantac. She had it pretty bad. We go back in 2 weeks. She still spits up alot. She also sleeps on an incline.
