Re: Anyone have a really good Mac & Cheese Recipe?
There is a crockpot one on here that is excellent.
DH and I make our mac and cheese 2 different way. I use velveeta cheese and the kraft cheese (the one in the blue container that you can shake on anything) and milk. He uses cheddar cheese and breadcrumbs and milk.

Re: Anyone have a really good Mac & Cheese Recipe?
I do but I'd have to get the recipe from my mom (I always make it w/ her). We use it for bigger events like parties and usually make 2 trays at a time. I know it involves cream of mushroom soup and a bunch of other stuff that I don't like but it is SO GOOD!!! FM me if you want the recipe.

Re: Anyone have a really good Mac & Cheese Recipe?
I make this for holidays, etc. Everyone LOVES it. I do a few things though to alter the recipe. I usually use sharp cheddar and mild cheddar, not American (simply b/c I usually don't find American Shredded cheese and can't be bothered shredding my own).
This recipe calls for onion and it adds such an amazing flavor. Sort of gives it a white castle oniony taste if you know what I mean...You could omit the onion if you don't like onion. Dh prefers less oniony taste, so I use half the onion they recommend (unless you like REALLY oniony flavored things). And I take about 4 to 6 slices of white bread and dry it out to make bread crumbs (a day or two before), and toss the breadcrumbs in melted butter and salt and spread them on the mac and cheese before you bake it. I keep it covered halfway through cooking time then uncover for the rest of the cooking time. The mac and cheese has a buttery crumby coatin on top. People LOVE it!
Better Homes and Gardens Best Loved Mac and Cheese
2 cups dried elbow macaroni (8 ounces) 1/2 cup chopped onion (1 medium) 2 tablespoons butter or margarine 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour 1/8 teaspoon black pepper 2-1/2 cups milk 1-1/2 cups shredded cheddar cheese (6 ounces) 1-1/2 cups shredded American cheese (6 ounces)
Directions 1. Cook macaroni according to package directions. Drain; set aside.
2. Meanwhile, for cheese sauce, in a medium saucepan cook onion in hot butter until tender. Stir in flour and pepper. Add milk all at once. Cook and stir over medium heat until slightly thickened and bubbly. Add cheeses, stirring until melted. Stir in cooked macaroni. Transfer mixture to a 2-quart casserole.
3. Bake, uncovered, in a 350 degree F oven for 25 to 30 minutes or until bubbly and heated through. Let stand for 10 minutes before serving.
4. Makes 4 servings
5. Saucepan Macaroni and Cheese: Prepare as above, except reduce milk to 2 cups. After draining macaroni, immediately return macaroni to the saucepan. Pour cheese sauce over macaroni; stir to coat macaroni with sauce. Cook over low heat for 2 to 3 minutes or until heated through, stirring frequently. Let stand for 10 minutes before serving.
You can even freeze a tray, reheats awesome! I make a big batch and freeze a tray. One for Thanksgiivng and one for Xmas Eve.

Re: Anyone have a really good Mac & Cheese Recipe?
I created a mildly less fattening version....
1 box mac- cooked till al dente and drained
Melt about 2T butter in a pan. Add one small diced onion. Sautee until onion is clear and the pot smells sweet. Add 3T flour and 1t mustard powder and stir. Then add 2.5 cups whole milk and salt and pepper. Let come to a simmer. Stir in 1 8 oz bag reduced fat shredded chedar. Keep stirring until all cheese is melted. Combine sauce and mac in a casserole dish.... stir. Top with seasoned breadcrumbs and dots of butter, if you like. Bake for about 20 min at 375.

Re: Anyone have a really good Mac & Cheese Recipe?
This is my family's recipe. This has always been my favorite meal!! My mom would make it for me every year on my birthday since I loved it so much.
Macaroni and Cheese:
2 T butter 1/3 C chopped green onion Combine, melt and slightly saute.
2 T flour 3/4 tsp salt Add and stir in.
2 C milk Add gradually wihle stirring.
1 1/2 C shredded cheese (I use cheddar) Add gradually, while stirring. Stir and heat until slightly thick. (You don't want it to be like soup.)
Pour over 1 1/2 cooked elbow noodles in a caserole dish. Bake at 350 for 20-30 minutes uncovered.

Re: Anyone have a really good Mac & Cheese Recipe?
My recipe is sooo good!!!
Homemade Macaroni & Cheese
Ingredients:
Half a box of Elbow Macaroni 2 bars of shredded Extra Sharp Cracker Barrell Cheddar Cheese 1 cup of whole milk
First I cook the macaroni as directed, then I shred the cheese completely. I use a casserole dish and just alternate in layers the macaroni, chedder, macaroni, etc. Once done, pour the cup of milk on top. Then I layer the top with a breadcrumb & parmesan cheese mixture, sprinkle that all over and dot the top with some little pieces of butter. Prepare the oven to 350 degrees. Cover the casserole dish with aluminum foil and bake for 5 minutes until the cheese is starting to melt. Then uncover the casserole dish and bake another 15-20 minutes until the top is all golden brown.
Enjoy!
