Anyone have a really "rough" 7-8 month old?
is it just a phase? DD is really rough when she gets excited and pretty much smacks the s h i t out of me sometimes, and it really hurts!!!
I started saying NO in a firm voice, and repeating the word GENTLE while i take her hand and sofly pat my face with it.
Is there anything else I can do at this age?
TIA!!

that's when it all started for us too....now add in biting (well, gumming) and hair pulling. Ouch!!! I think it is common though. But its great though that you're trying to teach her. My son laughs at me when I firmly tell him anything. I keep doing it though because I have to believe eventually it will work.

I'm so glad you posted this because I thought I was alone! She is SO rough and I too have tried "gentle" and "nice". She looks at me like "you idiot, I'm 8 months old".

It's normal for the age
At that age, show her what's Nice and how to do nice. If they laugh, keep a straight face, if you smile, they think it's a game now. If she keeps doing it, i'd put her down and walk away. Distraction also works really well at that age too.

I think some kids are slap happy, I have one of them.
Its calmed down a lot. I hope that once he can speak it stops all together.

Re: Anyone have a really "rough" 7-8 month old?
Lucas started at around 10 months...smacking and pulling my hair. Fortunately he doesn't do it to other children...just to me but not too often. He thinks it's a game and I try to just keep serious - I take his hand and show him to be gentle. I am reserving the no's because lately he does react to them but he gets sad and runs over to hug me. So I am trying to save those for big dangerous things and do something else with the hitting and pulling hair.

Re: Anyone have a really "rough" 7-8 month old?
We call DS "Bam-Bam". He's rough and he's STRONG! And he has 3 VERY sharp teeth that he loves to bite me with. DH always says "Be gentle with mommy" as if he understands. I just try to gently say "no" and remove his hands/teeth from me but I dont think it's making a hill of beans difference.

My DS is 6 months, but big for his age and strong. He is getting rough and grabbing at everything I have in my hands now. He's clocked me a few times in the face so hard with his head that I wonder if I will end up with a broken nose someday.
