Anyone have a treadmill and
live in an apartment? Not in an apartment building but in a 2 family house type apartment? DH wants to buy me one but we are worried about disturbing the landlord downstairs. (he is 88 and almost completely deaf however.....)I dont want to shake the whole house. We were wondering about shock absorption? Any examples or advice?
TIA!

Re: Anyone have a treadmill and
I had one and had it on an area rug. I just made sure I didnt workout before 9am or after 10pm. The people below said they heard it but it was only for 45ish minutes and it wasn't too bad. I was lucky!
However after I bought a co-op in great neck and the building told us at our board mtg that they didnt allow dogs or treadmills!

Re: Anyone have a treadmill and
I live in a house and my next door neighbor came over because he could hear it. But I had the windows open and I was running pretty hard.

Re: Anyone have a treadmill and
We have one and live on the 2nd floor of a two story home... I can honestly say that since we've been there (Aug.) I've used it once. I actually had DH call downstairs to see if I could use it because I know it's directly above their bedroom. They were in the other room and said it didn't bother them, but it bothered me. I felt I couldn't get a good workout because I was WAY TOO self conscious about it. Since then I bought a recumbent exercise bike and use it a lot. No noise, no thumping, etc. I've even used it while DH was sleeping...he had no clue that's how quiet it was!

Re: Anyone have a treadmill and
Thanks so much for the advice ladies. I dont think I am going to get one Ive had a bike before and it did nothing for me. I only feel like I get a real workout when I use the treadmill. I guess I have to join the gym again - ugh I hate it!

Re: Anyone have a treadmill and
Heather- what about an elliptical machine? No banging, easier on the joints.

Re: Anyone have a treadmill and
I use mine in the basement and one of my dogs (who is upstairs) freaks out the entire time (I assume from the noise).
PS: I had an elliptical (that I ordered from an infomercial!!) when I lived in an apt bldg in Queens and I felt self-conscious about whether is was disturbing my downstairs neighbors (and the room was carpeted). Luckily it became a clothing rack pretty quickly so it couldn't have been too disturbing to them

Re: Anyone have a treadmill and
my friend just got one and shes on the 3rd floor of an apartment building. She used it for like 2 days and got a knock on her door- it was her neighbor downstairs and said she was making too much noise. So, she went out, got a rug and a rubber mat to put underneath it. She told her neighbor and he could still hear it, so now they've worked out a schedule of certain times he wont be home so she can use it.

I might be taking my sisters elliptical from my moms house at the end of the month. You think its easier on the joints though? It kinda bothers my knees a little. I prefer the treadmill - I feel like I get more of a workout but if thats all I can get I will take it. I need to work out somehow!

For me, its better than the treadmill. I wouldn't do it if it hurts your knees, though.
