Anyone have a window in their shower? Updated w/ Picture

Do you put anything over it to protect it?
Someone mentioned to cut a shower curtain and put it over it - but I wanted to see if anyone else had any other ideas.

Re: Anyone have a window in their shower?

We have a regular small curtain that fits the window (the glass isn't frosted) and then a plastic liner that goes on the side towards the shower.

When we replace the shower curtain liner, we cut a small piece, wash it, and put it up on the shower window.

This is what we used to have in ours.

When we went looking at houses I saw one house that cut the shower curtain and used that as curtains...it looked nice the way they did it.

I would recommend either.

Re: Anyone have a window in their shower?

We have frosting over the glass of the window.
it was pretty embarassign the first time I used the shower though...I didn't realize the window started at my waist, was completely clear, and that our neighbor's house faces that exact direction.
Very uncomfortable shower that day!Chat Icon

Re: Anyone have a window in their shower?

Our window has a coating on it so you can't see in. the window faces our alleyway anyway, so we don't have to worry about nosy neighbors.

Re: Anyone have a window in their shower?

I am not worried about anyone looking in. It is a frosted window, so no one can see in.
Let me see if I have a picture I can post to help explain what I am looking to do

Re: Anyone have a window in their shower?

We have a roll up shade in white to protect the wood and prevent water from collecting on the sill.

We have nothing over ours. It faces a wooded area in our back yard (i.e., no neighbors) and its up high enough anyway.

If I were you I'd just do the frosted peel window covers or even a stained glass. That window is too pretty to have a curtain or blinds of any kind to cover it.

I have a window in my shower with nothing on it...it's frosted. I hope my neighbors can't see too much LOL

Re: Anyone have a window in their shower? Updated w/ Picture

I am not worried about the window glass itself, I am worried about the wood around the window.

I want to protect the wood from the water from when we are in the shower.

This window allows alot of sunlight in, so I don't want to block it all day, only while we are in the shower.

Re: Anyone have a window in their shower? Updated w/ Picture

I know what you're saying but I wouldn't do anything. Even if you put up a curtain to cover it while showering (which it doesn't look like much water hits it anyway) the wood will still get wet from steam. Over time you will probably have to replace the wood regardless...and I don't think it's a big job.

I would just dry it off after each shower and leave it as is.

We have one and the previous owners put fake stain glass stuff that sticks over it - its actually kinda pretty - not sure where she got it.

How about a water seal type paint to put on the wood. Like Thompson's waterseal...Maybe it would keep the wood from absorbing the water.Chat Icon

marine grade paint or stain is what you need.

Re: Anyone have a window in their shower? Updated w/ Picture

There was a wood Anderson window in my shower when I bought my house. Due to all the water, the carpenter ants made it their home. Hundreds of them! I found out when I remodeled the bathroom.

I put in a vinyl awning window with frosted glass. If you don't want to replace the window, make sure you have silicone caulk around it and a waterproof sealant. There's not too much more you can do.
