Anyone have any extra dresses? UPDATE AGAIN

Here is the story. I work as a Project Manager for a not-for-profit company. We build rehab facilities for those w/ mental health or addiction issues. Our residents live in our buildings for 2 years and while there they get the help they need as well as learn skills to help them prepare for life when they finished their rehab.

Well, we have one building, my favorite, and it houses girls aged 12-17 who all have addiction problems of some sort, whether it was drugs, alcohol, even prostitution. These girls are all missing their proms/dances or some sort of graduation party and have been so upset over it. I was there today and these girls are so sweet and cleaning themselves up so wonderfully and it broke my heart that they all were so down this time of year.

One of the girls is graduating out of the program in June and it is also the day she turns 16. The girls decided to have a sweet 16 party in their courtyard, and get dressed up and make it like a prom, graduation, birthday party in one.

The building director went to those places that give dresses to those girls who need prom dresses but cannot afford it, but they will not help us as this is not technically a "school" prom. So, these girls are very upset that now they cant have a dresses for this event, b/c honestly, most of them can't afford to buy anything like this. All they want is a chance to get out of their uniforms and dress up like most girls their age do around now w/ all the parties and proms going on.

I started thinking of what I could do to help, I thought, I have a few bridesmaids dresses and some others I don't wear, and I am sure some of you do too. If anyone has a dress they would like to donate to these girls they would so appreciate it. I really hope I can pull this off for them. They all have turned their lives around and are the sweetest bunch of girls you'd ever meet. There are girls there that were prostitutes and on drugs at age 12, its just so sad and I'm happy that they are getting the help they need.

If anyone has any sort of party dress they wouldn't mind donating, I and I know these girls would appreciate it. Even if its too big or whatever, these girls all are different sizes and shapes, but I will take care of getting it tailored for them. I need dresses for 16 girls. If anyone has anything, please FM me.

Wow...seriously the response from everyone here has been incredible. My office is in tremendous gratitude to everyone who offered to help us. Now that we got so many responses, we are going to offer girls in another building to come to the party as well, if we do get enough for everyone. All extras we will donate to another not-for-profit for their use.

Since the response has been so tremendous, we are asking if possible, can any donations be sent to our office and any monetary donations be made out to Odyssey House Foundation...and please indicate this is for the girls at 1264 Layfayette. With any donations we are going to get better food then a bbq and decorations as well as alittle something for the girl graduating w/ her GED and out of the program. Also, if we can get some monetary donations, we are going to get the boys as the facility just like this one dress shirts so they can come as their "dates". Chat Icon

I sincerely thank all of you and yes, we will take shoes (i didn't even think of that, so thank you to whoever through it out there) and costume jewelry, bags, etc.

If possible, please send to my office as we will have the girls come and have a dress shopping experience in our offices after hours. If you can't ship, please FM me and I will pick up whenever, wherever.

Again, I live in Seaford adn work in NYC. Anyone who lives close, I wll pick up or work in NYC, I will pick up there if you want. I wish I could pick everything up from anyone not to put anyone out, but I think it will get alittle nuts. Just let me know if you need me to pick up and we can arrange a time within the next few weeks.

SATURDAY NIGHT UPDATE
Just wanted to thank everyone again. Any donations are so welcome right now as these girls/boys have been through so much in their young lives and basically, they have nothing. I am working my way through all my FM's, and I promise, no FM will go unanswered, but I have so many, and its taking me awhile setting up pickup, etc....I appreciate everyone on this forum, I am so grateful for your help.....words cannot express how happy we are right now for your support.
