Anyone have any stomach ailments while PG? (i.e. stomach virus, food poisoning, etc)

Something was wrong with our water yesterday giving DH and diarreah (sorry TMI). I called my OB and he told me to drink as much apple juice and gatorade I can get my hands on. This kept me hydrated, but my stomach is still too sore to eat a regular diet. This morning I weighed myself when I got up and I had lost 3 pounds, which freaked me out TBH. I was able to eat a little cereal this morning and some chicken and rice for lunch, but my stomach is still too sore and I'm affraid to aggrevate it. Usually if something like this happens I revert to jello and chicken broth and gradually introduce regular food, but can you do that when your PG? I feel like I am starving my baby. To make matters worse I have not been able to take prenatals since T1 so I take a chewable, but I know I am not getting as much as I could from a prenatal especially now. Should I try to eat a little more solid? I'm scared to lose any more weight.

I had a bad stomach virus when I was 12w. I vomited and had diarhea for 5 days straight. could not keep ANYTHING down. My OB said to try to keep a little water or gatorade down and suck on popsicles. When I started to feel better I was able to tolerate a little plain rice, toast, tea. It took like a week or more to get my regular appetite back. My OB wasn't concerned for the baby at all and said that it was more a question of making sure I didnt get dehydrated.

Don't worry..you are not starving your baby...the baby takes whatever he or she needs from us and we are the ones that suffer the consequences..not the baby. I hope you feel better very soon! Chat Icon

Thank you for your post.Chat Icon

I just got really nervous seeing my weight go down overnight. Yeah, last night and this morning when I spoke with my OB the main concern was hydration, not what I was able to eat food-wise. My doc actually called me this morning to make sure I was able to drink enough to be adequately hydrated through this.

I had food poisoning around 12 weeks. I could not keep much down for about 2 days. I just tried to keep myself hydrated and ate some crackers/toast. I am really bad but I didn't even call the doctor - in hindsight I should have, but by the second day I was starting to feel better so I wasn't that worried.

Like the pp said, the baby takes what it needs - you are not starving the baby. Feel better

sorry for the TMI but since you asked....I've had several bouts of peeing out my butt diarrhea that has lasted for days on end and I just made sure I drank plenty of gatorade. I wouldn't do apple juice b/c doesn't that cause loose bowel movements? And I ate only really plain carbs, toast, bagels, baked potatoes and was able to get over it. Good luck. I hope you feel better soon!

I got C Dif when I was pregnant and was hospitalized for a week and put on a strictly liquid diet for that week and then had to eat only tiny bits of bland food for several weeks.....just stay hydrated....thats the most important thing.
ETA: DD is totally healthy!

I had a stomach virus when I was 18 weeks with DD & then again two days before delivering DS Chat Icon. I was just told to stay as hydrated as possible & rest. The virus with DS, I lost 9 pounds over night. All of my water weight was tossed up. The bright side was that I delivered 2 days later & didn't have time to get the water weight back so I had 9 pounds less to lose after birth.
