Anyone have dental work done during pregnancy?
So I went to the dentist because I had a bridge that was loose. It turns out I have a major infection and have to go to the oral surgeon to take care of it. Is this safe? He said now would be good to take care of it because if I wait any longer the absess will get worse and effect the baby. I am calling my Ob/Gyn tomorrow to find out what to look out for. Anybody have any advice?

Re: Anyone have dental work done during pregnancy?
When I was about 3 months pregnant my wisdom tooth started to KILL me and it turnso ut that it had a really bad cavity and a piece had broken off and the root was exposed -- so I needed to get it pulled. I checked with my OBGYN and he said local novacain was fine so they gave me the local and pulled the tooth, and I took an antibiotic for a week afterwards to make sure it didn't get infected.
Definately ask your OBGYN but some dental work should be fine during pregnancy and it's definately a good idea to get it taken care of so it doesn't bother you through the whole pregnancy and so the infection doesn't spread!
Good luck.

Yes I had to get a molar pulled b/c the root canal went bad The OBGYN okd my dentist to pull the molar in my first tri but my dentist wanted to wait until my 2nd tri. So that's what we did and everything is fine. Novicaine is fine as long as it doesn't have epinephrin (sp?) in it. Good Luck

Thank you for the reassurance. I was so nervous for the baby.

You may also want to ask your OBGYN to put in writing a list of what pain killers/novacains or whatever might be okay. My doctor wrote down what was OK for my dentist and the dentist kinda saw it as clearance that he was alright to go ahead with pulling the tooth.
