Anyone have experience with stubborn yeast infection in baby girl?
DD had a nasty yeast infection..went to doctor..got prescription for Nyastatin..it was starting to work, but never fully went away, i am still using meds, and now it looks like its flaring up again. Today makes 2 weeks since i first took her to the doctor for this.
Any advice?????

Re: Anyone have experience with stubborn yeast infection in baby girl?
It took a while for my daughter's infection to go away. In addition to the Nystatin we also tried to go without a diaper for as long as we could chance it... even if that meant just an extra 3 minutes during diaper changes, or 15 minutes post bath. I'd follow up with the doctor to see if there is anything else you can do for her as it would drive me insane to slather on cream and still see the rash! good luck

We use Lotramin, for athletes foot, OTC when dd gets one.The dr told me to use that Shes been fighting one for weeks as well. It's annoying.
She could be passing it back to herself. Did you bleach the bath?
Make sure the diaper area is dry, and air her out for a bit before putting on a diaper

DD gets yeast infections pretty frequently. Some are more stubborn than others. Lotrimin AF (OTC by the athlete's foot stuff) works really well for us. Doc has me put it on three times a day for 3 weeks to make sure every bit of it is gone. I also put some baking soda in her bath when she looks a little red. Letting them air out without a diaper as much as possible is really helpful as well. Also, stop using wipes, especially if she's red. My doc told me not to wipe pee and to use a wet paper towel for poop. It sounds gross, but we do it when she's red and it seriously makes a HUGE difference. I use aquaphor at every diaper change on a regular basis.

Yes Lotramin and baking soda bath.I forgot about that.
With these infections, the rash creams don't do much. She needs something to kill the bacteria.

can you give her a probiotic- they have powder ones for kids that you can put in their milk or juice and they counteract yeast

when ds has a yeast rash i do exactly this (except I use a&d not aquaphor)
Also, skip the regular diaper creams for a bit until it is away 100% use the lotrimin and you can even use some cortizone cream.

I forgot about this!! I get florastor and give it to DS once a day. You cam ask for it at the pharmacy. It's over the counter but they usually keep it back there with them.

Re: Anyone have experience with stubborn yeast infection in baby girl?
I have had this problem many times. My son would get one (when he was in diapers) everytime he went on antibiotics. Nystatin would never really help fully.
His dermatologist told me to mix the nystatin with Summer's Triple Paste AF (I had cvs pharmacy order it for me..got there in one day) and one cap full of Maalox. Sounds weird but worked. SO well and very quickly.

I used a Rx creme. Went through 2 before the 3rd finally worked. Once it started to work though, it cleared up pretty quickly. She's only gotten it twice. (so far, thank god)

Yes, i have been giving her probiotics since she has been six months (she is almost 8 months now)..so i guess that is not helping..i also give her yogurt..which is also not helping. Do i use the lotromin spray (i have some at home already)? And do i spray it on or put it on a towel and rub in? Anyone know?
DH has yeast issues (candida), i hope its not hereditary..poor little girl.

I have never used the spray never thought it haha but if its the same ingredients then I don't see why not. Try it and see it will be a lot less messy

Triple Paste makes a yeast infection cream too. I think it's Triple Paste AF?? I got samples from the Ped and it worked great and I am not a triple paste fan in general.

Re: Anyone have experience with stubborn yeast infection in baby girl?
Dd had a horrible one. Went to dr and was prescribed nystatin. Used it for a full week and rash was getting worse. Dr said some rashes are nystatin resistant and prescribed ketoconazole. Within two days was getting better and was gone in a week. Good luck!

That is exactly what happened to my DD. I ended up going back to the doc for a different prescription, I cannot remember the name, sorry. But it cleared up within a few days. Good luck!

Would they give you a diflucan rx? My dd had a nasty thrush infection and we saw results in hours.

Dr prescribed ketokonzal (sp) to use twice a day plus a thick layer of Desitin max. It took about a two weeks to clear. It was awful!

Re: Anyone have experience with stubborn yeast infection in baby girl?
I alternated using nystatin with otc lotramin and regular A&D. I also switched to 7th generation diapers and wipes bc they were less irritating.

This was great, too. Yeast infections are internalinternal and this will help heal the child from the inside.

Re: Anyone have experience with stubborn yeast infection in baby girl?
You want make sure you keep the area as dry as possible. After baths and diaper changes let it air out or a little while. I used to use a cool blow dryer on DD to make sure the area was completely dry. Those measures plus the nyastatin eventually got rid of DDs.
Maybe also try a children's probiotic to regent recurrences.
