Anyone have experience with the new HD DVD camcorders/hard disk type?
I'm so frustrated. I did so much research and for some reason, I never really looked into compatibility for the Canon Vixia HG20. I have a MacBook, and it seems there's some kind of glitch in there that the damn computer will not recognize the camera when I want to upload videos to my computer. I even went on the Mac forums and they're talking about me needing some kind of Tiger update. I have iMovie HD. The camera only comes with software that is Windows compatible, but supposedly other people have had success uploading videos to their Macs.
There's no way this thing will upload to my archaic PC either, and besides, I don't have a DVD burner on that one.
Do I have any other options to store videos somewhere? And when I finally do burn a DVD does it have to be HD? I would love to send DVDs to family but if it's not compatible..
ugh TIA!
UPDATE: called Canon- and he got it to work with lots of rebooting and all sorts of things. WHEW so glad this thing wasn't a waste of money!
Thanks!

can't help regarding the camera and mac as i have neither but i want to comment on making dvds
you can make a dvd of footage you took an HD but i will not look as sharp when you convert to so SD on a dvd.
You will need a bluray burner to take advantage of HD video taping or play a file directly from your camera or computer attached to a HDTV

Thanks Tom...I figured that as well but I was more into getting the video online, like youtube so I could just easily email the link to family.
Ugh why did I go with HD? I just figured with technology - the way it keeps updating, I should go with the latest...ugh.

HD is a good choice...mainstream, its just not there yet like the way we burn DVD.
Blu Ray disc/burners are still expensive...i imagine another year or so of high prices.
Current trend is to have PC connected to your tv. if you do that and have a good graphics card, you can see hd videos you took on your tv without the camera.

Tiger is a OS so it depends on what OS you are working in currently. If you have a current Mac then all you would have to do is go into System Preferences and click on software updates. If you are running a older OS then you would have to upgrade. But I am sure there are patches that will allow you to upload the footage.
Are you using a firewire cable? Sometimes if you try using a usb it wouldn't work with video.

I called Canon and they said it was because I was using an older version of iMovie. I've been using the default one which was outdated, turns out I did have the right version. So I tried using that- STILL didn't work.
I'm on Mac osx version 10.4.11. I'm using the right version of iMovie according to canon....
I'm using USB- think I should switch to a different cable? Thanks!
