anyone have hypothyroidism?

I'm kind of stressing out. I went to a physical the other day and the Dr. left my test results on the answering machine. Every thing looks normal and good, except for my throid, which is said was slightly underactive. He made sure to say it wasn't that big of a deal and that he'd like to do some more tests. And even if it was underactive it's easily treated with mediaction.
So I called back to find out more info and they were closed because of the snow. I stupidly went on the computer and did some research and now I'm nervous. I have gained weight recently, not a ton, but enough amd I don't eat that badly. I have been a little tired during the days. These are apparently symptoms. OK fine, I can deal with that.
What has me worried is that it says it can make conception more difficult and mess with menstrual cycles. And what's worse, is t hat if I suffer from this during pregnancy, that I can pass it off to the baby and they can have a lot more problems developmentally.
Please someone tell me that they have this and talk me down from this ledge I feel myself climbing onto. Chat Icon

Re: anyone have hypothyroidism?

Right before I got my BFP with my DD I found out I also had hypothyroidism. I honestly dont know if I had this when I was preggo with my son because I never went for my yearly physical. I took synthoid the entire pregnancy and I also had to see a high-risk OB along with my regular OB. I had to have blood drawn every 4-5 weeks for the high risk dr. I know they say miscarriages increases with hypothhyroids.
My DD was tested in the hospital and everything was fine. Both my DC are fine.
At my 6 week pp appt. I found out my thryoid is all out of wack again so I have an appt with my MD next week.

Re: anyone have hypothyroidism?

It makes me feel better that bot of your Dc are totally fine. I had a physical before my BFP with DS and there were no thyroid issues, so I guess this is a new development. I'm sure it's not a big deal, but for some reason I feel so upset about it- like I want to cry. My DH says I'm making a big deal out of nothing and since I'm broderline- based on regular physical tests, I'll probably be fine with further testing. I think his lack of concern is adding to my emotionalness about this.

I have hypothyroid (and actually so does my DH) ...I take the generic version of synthroid ( levothyroxine) and it is under control...I myself have IF issues but I was told that I also have PCOS, so I'm not quite sure how much of a role if any my thyroid has played in my IF problems...I can say that my DS is totally unaffected and to be honest i personally have never heard of a DC being affected if the mom is hypo.If you do have it, they will monitor your thyroid during your pg ( sometimes the meds have to be tweaked when you are pg) but aside from that , it really is very controllable and extremely common Chat Icon

Re: anyone have hypothyroidism?

I have hypothyroidism. I only found out in October and I started Synthroid in November. It's easily treated and nothing to worry about I've found.

I have the same type of thryoid. The doc monitors your blood and heart. They also increased my dosage to two pills on Fri, Sat, and Sun.

Re: anyone have hypothyroidism?

I have a very mild case of it. In fact, if you do some research you'll see that a LOT of women have it - many don't even know it. Thyroid meds are one of the most commonly prescribed meds out there.

From what I understand and what I was told by my RE, it is rare that it will interfere with your fertility. And, it is one of the easiest issues to take care of - immediately I was prescribed synthroid and my numbers went back to normal within weeks. And to boot, I started to feel AMAZING - I never realized how crappy it made me feel until they normalized my levels and I felt so much better - more energy, not so cold all the time, my moods stabilized, etc.
