Re: Anyone have new news....

yeah Im curious - anyone hear anything? If they strike I give up - Im not coming in.

I dont mind the long azz walk from Penn to my office - but going home looks like it will be a disaster - we have to go to Penn, go to the entrance for your train line, and stand there until your train is called - and I guess pray you get in!

My principal just made an announcement to the kids that we will have a two hour delay in the event of a strike.

I will regardless leave at 6 am like I always do- no idea what the traffic will be like down here and the idea of a quiet, kid-free building is SO appealing. I could actually catch up on my work maybe! Chat Icon

Metro-North may strike in support of the TWU bus and subway strike. If that happens, there's no way for me to get to work.

This is definately something to consider. I believe Metro-North has been without a contract for about 3 years now. Check the MTA site and the nyc.gov site and they will list a bunch of contingency plans to use. Also, alot of company's are providing alternate transportation for their employees so you should check your company's website as well.

Last we heard they are negotiating but it does not look good. Our gut feeling is that they will strike on Tuesday and then resolve after the morning commute.

I drive down from Putnam to the Bronx- this will be a nightmare for me. Maybe I should shoot for 5:30. Chat Icon

It's still only a possibility, but here's the link I received at work from one of the secretaries.

I heard that Metro-North and cab drivers may strike in solidarity with the MTA. They may have mentioned the LIRR too.

I don't know how likely it is- it was mentioned on the news last Friday when we initially expected the strike.

Me too. Where do you live?

Even if Metro North is running, I don't think I am coming in--I highly doubt I could get a cab downtown to Bowling Green.

As of now, Metro-North was a huge part of the contingency plan if subway and bus workers go on strike. I don't think the MTA has a back-up plan if Metro-North employees go on strike. I'm the only person in my firm (besides one who's leaving this week) who lives in CT. Everyone else lives in Westchester, NYC, LI, or NJ. My firm's "contingency" plan is to try to get to work and to take into account the extra travel time. Meanwhile, I thought I'd be one of the only ones not affected by the strike since I work within walking distance of Grand Central. Chat Icon

Same here... Chat Icon

I have every intention of trying to get to work, but if Metro-North is out of commission as well, I simply don't know how I'll go about doing this. Not to mention, my firm has NO CONTINGENCY PLAN (nor can I work from home) so I'm assuming I'd just have to burn thru my own Paid time off if I have to stay home

this is gonna be a nightmare for all involved

I am afraid they will. I imagine to union folk, making stops in the boroughs is very similar to crossing a picket line.Chat Icon

I think that's what we'd have to do if it lasted for more than a day.

I have'nt heard any rumors about the LIRR though. . . The MNR rumors were going on last week too.

Thank you for posting this. I should be better about staying on top of this but it seems like you're all my source of info. I need to get prepared for the LIRR I guess.Chat Icon

LIRR will cancel some trains in order to run shuttle service from Queens to NYC. I havent heard anything else.

The LIRR will not go out on strike. The MTA subways did not support the LIRR strike a few years back. There may be a bit of a slowdown for solidarity reasons but they will definately be running. For those of you in the Bronx, check and see if your company is part of the Clearing House. If so I beleive they are having buses pick up at certain points in the city that you would be able to use.
