Anyone have problems with their Dell Computer?

We are having a problem that has happened two other times in the past couple of months - it's some type of power source issue - when we turn the computer on - it does not go on - makes 4 beeping noises and then the computer tower starts making noises - like it's "motor" is overheating (almost like a hair dryer noise). The problem has corrected itself in the past - we disconnected everything and left it for a few hours - now it's not!!

Anyone have this issue with a Dell? What did you do? We know we have to bring it in to someone, but I just wanted to see if anyone on here has any knowledge or solutions to this problem.

OMG, my husband had the same problem with his computer. It wouldnt turn on, and the fan kept revving on and off. We ended up having to replace the hard drive after a BATLLE with Dell.

Yes, we lost everything, and Dell sent us a refurbished hard drive. And then ended up sending us a brand new computer. We never sent back the old one like we were supposed to. I have to say, I will never buy another Dell.

I replaced so many parts on my Dell. I HATE DELL. Sorry I just needed to but in and say that, althought it wasn't helpful.

I had a similiar problew . TWICE. I have had this hard drive replaced twice after LOOOONGGGG battles with Dells representatives in India.

I also will NEVER buy another Dell computer.

We have had problems with the computer since day 1 - it is less than two years old!!!

I still don't understand why it would be a hard drive issue - seems to me it would be some sort of power source issue - I'm having an absolute heart attack here, I have to say!!!

I feel your pain - i will never get another dell - weve had two and they were both nothing but problems and phone calls to India

OK - DH has spent the past 1.5 hrs on the phone with Dell. Thank g-d - it's fixed right now.
They think a memory card shifted - even though our computer doesn't move - and had DH go into the tower and pull all these things out, put back in etc.

That's called chip creep. Just like with a lot of things, when something gets hot, it expands. And when it cools down, it contracts.

So the memory chips in particular, will actually push themselves out of their slots. DH has this problem occasionally and we have to remove the chips, blow some canned air in there, and put them back in.

Until Dell moved their home support to India, they were rated the best for service & support. Which isn't to say they're great. But they were the lesser of many evils.

I don't know now though if they're still rated #1. Doesn't mean much these days I guess.

I had it where My computer would not boot up for me, I had to insert the disk that dell got me and reboot everything. try pulling out all of the plugs in the tower as well that is in the walls than put it back in after a few minutes. also check your anti virus if you may have to try updating it also. Do you have optimum if so call them because maybe it can be on there end doing it like I said I had this happen to me good luck I hope it works for you.

Dell's are notorious for power supply problems. My laptop, my brother's desktop and my uncle's desktop all had to have new power supplies installed. The IT director at my old job said they are the worst when it comes to that.

My hard drive just shorted 2 weeks ago and they sent me a refurbished hard drive also. I too lost everything.

Dell is just the company thats puts computer peices together....in my experience, most people don't take care of thier computers software and hardware wise. at the end, a motherboard and cpu are all the same no matter where you get it from...

A hard drive would prevent booting to an operating system. The BIOS (the black and white part you may see before windows logo) will tell you no OS system found. That is an easy indicator that something is up with the hard drive. And even at that, your data may still be recovered. Backup up early and often is a good soultion as the harddrive takes itss wear and tear is most likly to get courrpted first.

Dell support may be in question (i use my own support) and that is a different conversation peice....

You have to assume that your computer could crash at any minute and you could lose it all.

If that was the case, what would you lose? Probably a lot. Much more than you think about on a regular basis. Like saved email addresses and irreplaceable pictures.

The most important thing on my computer, my digital pictures, are backed up in four different places. 2 hard drives, DVD, and my webhost.

You just can't do too many backups. But you can certainly do too few!!

Get those backups going!!

I will NEVER buy a Dell EVER. It took me 6 months to get my $$ back, they lost the first computer, send us one that crashed, sent us a refurbished one ...MIND U I ordered a NEW one and never got it! After 10 pages of names of people I spoke to who promised me the world, they never came thru. It was in discrpenacy with my Visa and they got my $$ back for me. Good luck....

We have this problem also.

I received something in the mail about it last week. Apparently, there is a class action lawsuit for this happening on Dell Inspiron 5150 Notebooks. I haven't read the whole legal notice but it looks like Dell is extending the warranty until 9/30/07 for repairing these notebooks.
