Re: anyone have surgery for scoliosis?
I didn't, but my best friend had the surgery (the one with the metal rods in your back, right?) and she had demerol.

do you know how she delivered though? since demerol is just for the pain.

Re: anyone have surgery for scoliosis?
I'm so sorry I never FM'd you back. I had just had DD and was all over the place and really still am
I have rods in my back from scoliosis and have now had 2 c-sections both with a spinal. No problems at all. I just had my surgeon look over my x-rays right before I delivered and he wrote down the best place for the spinal. The last anesthesiologist said he really didn't need that but he had it anyway.
And my recovery for both was great.
We will be trying to get PG again next yr and will have my third c-section.
ETA: I didn't need anything for the pain except some motrin every now and then.

Re: anyone have surgery for scoliosis?
I did. My fusion is down to L3 or L4. I delivered vaginally. I had a consult with the head of OB anesthesia before delivering and gave him my surgical records. Based on those and feeling my back, he said he thought a spinal would be possible, but an epi had a 50/50 shot of working, and that it would be hard to do. I tried going with nothing, but the nurses scared me that the pain was going to get a lot worse and last a lot longer, so I gave in. It took about 10 attempts to get the epi in (at least 30 minutes of trying, I'd say), and then it numbed my legs, but did nothing for the contractions. Luckily, my labor was progressing very fast and I delivered about 30 minutes after they got the epi in.

Re: anyone have surgery for scoliosis?
wow thanks for everyone's responses. i guess my situation is a bit different because i do have a bone graph in the hip area that does have a small rod in the area. i wish i was able to get a spinal but unfortunately because the rod runs past my waist it makes it more complicated. i am basically at a waiting point to see now which way to deliver. my ob doesn't seem to want to c-section but honestly i don't know if i can survive vaginally on demerol alone!

Re: anyone have surgery for scoliosis?
I had a decompressive lumbar laminectomy a few years ago.
I had a spinal for my scheduled c-section. The first one didn't take and caused a lot of pain, the second one did work.
