Anyone Have The Secret To A Moist Box Cake Mix
I'm making DDs birthday cake because she has a milk allergy so I'm using Duncan Hines yellow cake mix. I feel like it needs some moistness and flavor.
Do you add anything to make your boxed cake mix special?
Any fillings you would suggest
Thanks

I'm not sure if it would work for a box cake mix, but crushed pineapple does wonders for carrot cake.
Could you use almond milk or soy milk instead of regular milk?

Re: Anyone Have The Secret To A Moist Box Cake Mix
Well the Dunkin Hines cake mix I'm using is dairy free. But its kind of boring to have just a plain old yellow cake. I want it to have some kind of flavor. I'm also using a dairy free vanilla icing

I always make the Duncan Hines yellow cake for my son, who also had a dairy allergy...always comes out very, very moist and he loves it. Perhaps you can crush up some oreos into the frosting to make it cookies 'n cream flavored?

Re: Anyone Have The Secret To A Moist Box Cake Mix
My mom makes the best cakes. She used to work for a bakery, and now does everyone's shower cakes. She told me she uses a box mix, but follows the pound cake recipe on the side. Now I have a Duncan Hines mix in our house, and there is no pound cake recipe on it, but from looking online, it seems you add a packet of pudding and more eggs than normal. I think Betty Crocker has the recipe on it, plus they mke a super moist line that has pudding in it.

I see the dairy allergy - but I use a melted stick of butter instead of the veg oil. Make sure it is not hot when you add it in though it will cook the eggs........
also I +1 the vanilla pudding and extra egg.

Re: Anyone Have The Secret To A Moist Box Cake Mix
poke holes with a tooth pick then brush it with something before you frost it- I like amaretto, but I'm sure other things would work too. Maybe even OJ?

Re: Anyone Have The Secret To A Moist Box Cake Mix
Thank you for all your suggestions. I made two cakes last night. I made one where I added an extra egg and vanilla pudding. It was sooooooo moist and delish Then I made a cake using applesause instead of butter and 1tbs of cinnamon and it was also very moist and the flavor was out of this world
Thanks again!

Re: Anyone Have The Secret To A Moist Box Cake Mix
I made DS the same cake for his birthday last month. Followed the directions on the cake and it came out really moist. I was actually surprised. He didn't care what it tasted like, it was something different...
