Anyone have their Professional Cert?
I'm just curious how you prove your professional development hours. I work in a private school & it just says to keep track on your own....sounds shady to me.
Will they tell me in 5 years I'm no longer certified???
It says I have 5 years to get 175 hours of prof. development classes, minus 10% per year b/c I'm in private school.
Just worried.

Do you pay for your professional development or does your school? Just wondering?
If your school has a professional development workshop can you count that?

My principal told me Fri. that could be considered. She also said faculty mtgs (but I highly doubt that).
In my old school in Queens they had workshops galore available & free college classes, but that's not currently the case in my new school & I'm starting to get worried.
PS--you can log onto the NYS TEACH website & add all your professional development classes/workshops (but still I worry).

I worry too... I was going to contact BOCES to see if they had more information.

Re: Anyone have their Professional Cert?
I have my teaching license and my CPA and the rules are very similar.
Generally you just keep track of your hours on your own. In the unlikely event that the state "audits" your license, you have to prove that you are in compliance. In the 10+ years I was an accountant the state never came looking.

Re: Anyone have their Professional Cert?
i am under the old guidelines, but i've heard from younger teachers in my building that anything the district considers staff development counts...so that would be staff meetings, superintendent conference days, any other days you're going to school and NOT teaching, etc. , if your schools sends you on a conference, etc.
not sure how helpful this is, but good luck!

Wow, so even hours during school? That's great.

yes, that's what i've heard. and because of this, most people have more than enough hours by the end of the year.
