Anyone have those days were you feel like you failed as a mother? UPDATED
Today is that day for me.. My poor little DD still has not had a bowel movement.. and i tried the thermometer trick, I gave her the ounce of water and did the suppository and nothing.. I called the peds 1hour and 1/2 ago and still has not returned my calls... I feel horrible, i hate that my little girl (3weeks old) has a bloated tummy and i cant seem to help her. I finally got her to get some sleep, she was up from 2:30am-8am, all she wanted was to be fed and snuggled.
Im sure its normal for her to be like this, but i hate it... i wish the peds will call back..
sorry just venting..
UPDATE: I just got back from peds.. Dr said her abdomen is extended.. so he had the nurse do the thermometer trick (i was doing wrong) and poo came out and then after that he had me clean her up and then he used his pinkie (oh man that was terrible, i never heard my dd scream like she did, it was horrible.. i started crying), he had to make sure there was no hard things blocking her up, then more poo came out.. All liquid poo so Dr was happy, he said if blocked up in 2-3 days then to redo thermometer trick (cross my fingers it doesnt block up).. Turns out her rectum at the end was too tight for the poo to come out... Im so happy thats all it was.. Now DD is happy and sleeping.. Thanks moms for your support.

Re: Anyone have those days were you feel like you failed as a mother?
We all have those days where we wish we could do more than we can.
Whether it's helping them feel better or just being able to be there for them.
You're doing great just by trying and caring so much about her.

Vent away....I'm sorry you are having a bad day...
My DD (also 3 weeks) is in a very similar situation. No BM since yesterday and she wants to do is sleep on my shoulder. I finally just put her down in the bassinet and rocked it a little and off she went. Maybe try that? Good luck

I try.. She falls a sleep on my shoulder and as soon as i put her down she gets restless.. she only wants to sleep on me. Which i know i should enjoy and I DO.. I just want her tummy to feel better.. im sure the fact that shes sleeping on her tummy thats whats making her feel better.. She hasnt had a bowel movement since SAT!!! Thats a long time..

Sorry you are having a bad day. I know its tough when your little one is in pain or discomfort.
Have you tried pear or prune juice?? It really helped DS with his constipation.

Since Saturday, poor lil thing...Call your pediatrician again and tell them that her belly is distended if you didn't already. It has to come out soon, don't worry! Hang in there

so sorry you're going through this! I have definitely had those days, I think every mother has. You are trying your best. I would call the pediatrician again, 2 hours is too long to wait for a call back.

Re: Anyone have those days were you feel like you failed as a mother?
Oh I am so sorry. I went through this last week up until yesterday.
DS had no BMs. I tried the thermometer but just a little came out (sorry... TMI!). Then the next day I used the supposatory per our ped. NOTHING! Finally yesterday, the daycare told me he had 2 HUGE BMs.. like explosions. His clothes were all dirty (he has a couple of extra outfits there) but I did not care. I was so relieved.
Ped was not too worried. I was since DS is a "regular" baby.

I'd call again. You sound really concerned. They understand if new mom's are anxious about things. Just call...and I hope DC feels better soon!

We all feel that way.
Call your ped again. I think that's more than enough time to get a call back.

Can you explain how you were doing the thermometer trick "wrong" -- I've never seen a how to on that!
I'm glad to hear that she is feeling better now...

YES. Many days. I've had nights where I've cried when they are in bed bc I feel like I s*ck as a Mother. Luckily those days are not everyday, I don't think there's a Mother alive who doesn't. Mommy guilt...it's a tough one.
You sound like you are doing a great job. The poor thing, Im glad she got some relief. I had one time like that with my DD when she was very small and it was heartbreaking to see the kid try to poop.

So glad everything is okay. Yeah, sometimes they have to do that pinky thing just to loosen up the rectal muscles. Hopefully she's be good from here on out.

Re: Anyone have those days were you feel like you failed as a mother? UPDATED
Im glad all worked out sweetie! My son did not poop for 12 hours one day and I called up the doctor to ask if that was normal (well I first asked the girls on here for their opinion - and all said that as long as the poop comes out soft after 12 hours and the diapers are wet that all should be ok) and my doctor said the same thing as the girls on here said...that as long as the poop comes out after 12 hours and its soft then all is ok (baby is constipated if poop comes out solid) and its ok to do the thermometer or a q-tip with a little vaseline at the end of it...
I have a pooping machine here so I'm hoping he doesn't get too backed up one day to the point where I have to do that...but its good to know what to do in situations like that.
