Anyone have tips for trimming toddler fingernails and toenails?

All of a sudden cutting Sarah's finger and toe nails has turned into torture. She screams like she's being beaten, fists up her hands and kicks to keep me from getting near her. Any suggestions?

The same thing was happening to me. I tried to then do it when he was sleeping, but he'd wake up half the time. Now I do it while I'm BFing him. Sounds crazy, but it works best for me.

SIL said she did it while DD was sleeping. My DD was too light of a sleeper for me to this.

I try to do it after her bath while she is watching a video. Sometimes she fights me so I end up only getting a few nails done and I have to try again another time.

I haven't had a problem cutting James' nails...but a girlfriend of mine did and she said that she would give the baby a bath, and hten cuddle with baby and actualy bite the nails down with her teeth. I don't think that I would attempt that...but if your despreate you do what you can I guess

I used to do it while they were sleeping or put baby mozart on to distract them. Now that they're older I do it right after bath time (softens the nails).

Its funny, Noah loves to watch me cutting his razor sharp yet paper thin nails...he thinks its all very interesting.

Have I mentioned that he is a FREAK..

This has become such a chore for us now that I seem to only be able to get one or two done at a time, so by the time I hit all 10 fingers and toes, its time to start all over again!

Kevin has fought this for a long time now.

I do it when he is sleeping in the car and DH is driving.

The only other time he kind of let's me (I can usually only get one hand a day this way on the rare occasion) - is after a bath when he is completely exhausted and zoning out....

Thanks for the suggestions everyone! It's nice to hear that I'm not the only one who can only get one or two done at a time.

I even tried doing her toes while she was sitting in her booster seat eating, but when I ducked from a flying foot I cracked my head but good on the table. Chat Icon

I do it while she's eating. also, I find that if I put DD on my lap facing outward and turn on the TV which gives her something to stare at it works for a little while too.

I have a really hard time cutting her nails also. I used to do it when she'd pass out on my lap after a bottle but that NEVER happens anymore---I've gone into her room while she was sleeping and cut them then ... and I've also tried doing it while she was on my lap watching some TV with hopes that it would distract her but am usually also only able to get a few nails done.
