anyone having a bad asthma week?

My 2 year old is not doing very well at all this week. Just wondering if this is a usual flare up season?

Janice I think you live down south right? I lived in nashville and growing up I lived there for several years (ages 4-10) and I would have HORRIFIC allergy issues (I had asthma on exertion and severe allergies) every single year I got bronchitis around valentines day - I found out from a few allergists that evergreens pollenate at that time of the year and it was worse for me down there than it is up here in NY but I still have problems here. I think with the warmer and colder weather and things like the evergreens it could definitely cause asthma issues!

Re: anyone having a bad asthma week?

thanks Marie! I hope he feels better soon!Chat Icon Its been an exhasting week.

Christine thanks for info!

In NY my allergies are always unbearable around St Pats day...makes sense that his is acting up a month early, its been warm here. He is really allergic to trees.

I haven't slept since Thursday. I am up ever 3.5 hours for treatments. When he has a flare up, he also runs a fever...since he had a febrile seizure I feel so stress combating this asthma with the fevers.

I hate being housebound...but there is no way I can take this kid out.

I just sterilized my room...hopefully he takes a long nap. I have him on allergy meds also. pulmicort. duoneb. motrin. He can't function.

On top of all this, I wish stress starved me...I am homebound and eating too much! that's just a selfish vent. Chat Icon

YES.

we just started having issues with asthma (DS is 16 months) so i can't compare it to past years or anything. but he's definitely having a rough week. we're still doing albuterol on a regular basis, plus flovent twice a day. and he just finished a course of oral steroids yesterday.Chat Icon

Re: anyone having a bad asthma week?

thanks Alex. Ours started at 18 mos, so that was in June, last year.

Its draining. I honestly have no idea how working moms deal with asthma. We are out of commission for weeks at a time.

Just looked up the tree count...pine is high, so is elm. both are high up on his allergy report.

Utah and Arizona are looking better and better these days.

you are in NC, right? so are we (durham), so i bet we're dealing with the same stuff in the air.

i am becoming acquainted with being a working mom with an asthmatic child. both my husband and i work full time, and we've each had to take at least 2 days or more off for the past 3 weeks Chat Icon it's CRAZY. it's gotten so bad that i've decided to work only part-time once i graduate from residency... i just have to put my family first.

we're actually moving to florida in 9-10 months, which isn't as great as utah or arizona, but better than where we are. at least we won't have seasons to contend with, and when DH moved there as a child his asthma disappeared. i am PRAYING Chat Icon

I have had asthma since birth.

My mom told me that when I was young, the doctor told her that his best advice is to move me to Arizona. She told me that it was the scariest and worst time in her life when I would have attacks. But, I always remember her staying strong.

I remember not being able to keep the windows open. AC only. My mom had to rip up all the carpets. No stuffed animals (I kept a few favorites). I slept on an incline pillow.

Do you keep the windows closed? I know that in the nice weather you want to keep them open, but that may cause an attack.

unfortunatley, no

I get bad allergies when the seasons change, and that's when I start to wheeze. I have a portable (very tiny, fits in my pocketbook) nebulizer that I keep with me when this happens. I will probably go to get allergy shots this year and see if that helps.

As much as it really sux, i've learned to deal with it pretty well.

My dad had asthma as a young kid and grew out of it though.

My DS (3 yrs) has been doing SO MUCH BETTER since I removed dairy from his diet. I went to a holistic ped and that is what he recommended, and WHAT A difference.

Re: anyone having a bad asthma week?

thanks all.

Day 7 and I am looking for a gun.

Mon night and Tuesday night were so good...I thought we were in the clear. It was back again last night.

Its not as bad as this weekend...but its still here.

interesting with the dairy...he did have a dairy allergy the first year of his life. Maybe I should switch him to soy.

How much school is he going to miss when he starts going???

Do I go in on Monday mornings and give class room a super cleaning????

Are classrooms carpeted? do I donate the asthma dyson??????

I just don't understand how we are crippled by this!
